RESUMO

The present research, bound with the Line of Research in pedagogical practices and its relations to the teaching formation, had as objective the analysis of the theory-practical understanding of the notion of competence and its implementation in education in the context of the industrial learning courses of the SENAI School in Campo Grande, MS. Therefore, the research analyzed the conceptual approach of the notion of competence, verifying how the actors (teachers, pedagogical coordinators and pupils) involved with the competence discourse understand this notion and spread it out, how they establish the relation among competences, work, job and citizenship and, in this direction, how they perceive the professional education currently. Finally, it analyzed the pedagogical practice of the institution, as reported by the interviewees; in the sense of verifying how competency based teaching is transposed from the speech to the objective class situation. From the methodological point of view, it is about a research of descriptive-explanatory nature, whose stages were: theoretical review of literature on the world of work scenarios, the professional education and the notion of competence; the accomplishment of eighteen interviews with teachers, pupils and coordinators of the mentioned institution; the analysis of institutional documents of SENAI which deal with the methodology of competency based training; the analysis of content of the interviews. The theoretical review showed that the notion of competence, deriving from the world of work, is not a consensual or polysemous concept, as it deals with a concept of difficult operation in education. The analysis of orienting documents of the methodology of competency based training of SENAI evidenced a matrix of functionalist competences. The analysis of the interviews indicates that the respondents possess different conceptions of competence, which are influenced by the matrix of competences of SENAI and by the world of work. As for the practice of the education described, the answers of the interviewees disclose difficulties in the transposition of the competences to the pedagogical practices, which ends up determining, many times, a reduction of the competences to functions and tasks. The search for the minimization of this functionalist bias of competences goes through the elaboration of a humanized curriculum that promotes the development of generic competences in order to enable greater autonomy and responsibility of the individuals and a critical view on the context of work, its directions and meanings. The matrix of competences of SENAI, despite the verified limitations, is a step forward from other technicality methodologies, based on the demonstration and repetition of operations related to the work positions.
