RESUMO

This research, done all over the year, is a case study of literacy practices of fundamental school. There are two specific questions to answer in this work: Are there any progressive literacy practices at Recife municipal schools during the initial grades of scholarship in educational cycles? Is it possible to get the goals of learning and literacy at first year letting the others for a deepening reading and text production? These issues are studied based on recent education politics of the country and education practices and studies. We use three classes on study, corresponding of first, second and third grade of first cycle of Recife Education Secretary, with good level of literacy. We use the following methodology: (1) Apply two acti vities to the students, in the very beginning and at the of year period and at the end of it. These activities are based on reading and writing of words and texts. (2) Teachers interviews. (3) Dynamics of teaching practices observations. Results of this research point us that there was a uniform development of literacy at all the classes, in all aspects researched, throughout the year. Comparing the results of each class individually we find meanfull differences between then. Second grades had better results on tests than first ones. Third grades had better results only at word writing in beginning of year. There were no differences at all of development of second and third grades accused on both of tests. The methodology and practices used by teaches in each year is basically the same changing only how deep it was applied. Our results suggest that differentiated literacy practices, learning differences respect and year goals establishment for first cycle would result in a successful learning experiences and literacy at the first year, improved and developed throughout the other years, showing us that our thesis is viable
