RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and to compare the progression of experimental periodontitis and peri-implantitis induced by ligature technique in five dogs and was used the PCR detection method to investigated the presence of P. gingival is, B. forsythus, A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. intermedia and P. nigrescens, before and after periodontitis and peri implantitis induced experimentally. The mandibular P2, P3 and P4 were extracted and 3 implants were placed in the edentulous area. After the abutment connection was installed, chemical and mechanical plaque control were perfonned once a day for two weeks by the application ofO,12% chlorhexidine gluconate solution and the use of toothbrush. Thereafter, peri-implantitis and periodontitis were induced by placing cotton floss ligatures around the implants and upper P2 and P3 for one month. Subgingival microbiologic samples and clinical examination were perfonned just before and after disease induction. Microbiological analysis showed that P. gingivalis was present at 95% of the dental implants and 85% of the teeth and B. forsythus was present at 80% of the dental implants and 85% of the teeth, only after disease induction. The other three bacteria were not identified in this experiment. Clinical analysis revealed significant loss of attachment leveI in implants (P=1 ,55X1 0-16) and teeth (P=6,33X1 0-18) after disease induction by ligatures. ln conc1usion, no statistically significant difference (P= 0,7) was found between the progression of experimental periodontitis and peri-implantitis induced by the ligature technique in dogs; and P. gingivalis and B. forsythus are associated with the progression of experimental peri-implantitis and periodontitis
