RESUMO

At the begining of the fifty´s in Brazil, especifically in Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, a group of graphic designers embraced the ideals of The Concrete Art by importing The European concepts of Funcionalism and Constructivism. The hipothesys suported in this essay is that it existed, like Concrete Poetry, Concrete Plastic Arts and Concrete Photography, a Brasilian Concretist Graphic Design. The essay starts presenting the estethic lines that influenced Concrete Art The most in the world, focusing on the constructivist vanguards movements that emerged in the down of the twentyeth century in Europe; And the penetration of these groups´ ideals in Brazil through the Ruptura and Frente groups - the center of the brasilian Concrete Art. We study also The concrete poetry in an international context and the vanguardism of the brasilian group Noigandres, his main influences and characteristics. We set up a mapping of the artists/Designers of the period and identified evidence that enfoce the existence of a concrete design in Brazil. From this mapping, we invetigate the popularization of concretism in a mass media magazine, O Cruzeiro, particularly its publicity. We analysed graphcally 30 qualitativelly chosen adds, and developed a model to guide and ease this analysis.
