RESUMO

This thesis constitutes an anthropological investigation on the field of articraft in Brasília. Fieldwork was carried out in three administrative regions of Brasília: Varjão, Taguatinga and Samambaia and comprised participant observation of the artisan groups As Costureiras do Varjão, Bordadeiras de Taguatinga Flor do Ipê and Flor do Cerrado, respectively. Supported by SEBRAE (Brazilian Service to the Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises), the formation of artisan groups is promoted in the context of projects to local development and income generation. The role of this institution is analysed with a view to identify the institutional strategies employed by this organization, created to be a public-private partnership, to promote artisan groups as well as to evaluate its impact on identity references in Brasilia. The signification and resignification process to which articraft production is submitted from production until consumption is also analysed.
