RESUMO

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intramuscular injection of Butaphosphan and Cyanocobalamin on the parameters of energy metabolism, protein, enzyme, mineral and livestock of dairy cows in the postpartum period. We used 52 animals of the Holstein breed. The experimental period ranged from birth to 150 days of lactation. These cows were divided into 3 groups: BC10 (n=18), who received 5 doses of 10mL of solution of Butaphosphan+Cyanocobalamin, BC20 (n=18), who received 5 doses of 20mL of Butaphosphan+Cyanocobalamin; and CG (n=16), used as a control group received 5 doses of 10mL of saline (NaCl 0.9%). Administrations were performed with an interval of 5 days, intramuscularly, and blood samples every 5 days. Evaluations were performed on body condition score (BCS) and productive performance during the postpartum period and measurements of metabolic parameters such as blood glucose, nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA), urea, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and ketone (CC) in urine. The measurements of blood glucose were not changed during the study period. The blood levels of NEFA were higher (P<0.05) for the GC compared to BC10 and BC20, which also differed (P<0.05). Urea levels did not differ between groups (P>0.05). There were no differences (P>0.05) in the metabolites Ca, P, Ca: P, Mg and CC in the urine. The same finding was common to liver enzymes, AST and GGT. The animals in groups BC10 and BC20 had a milk production higher than the GC (P<0.05), but did not differ (P>0.05). The analysis of milk components were similar (P>0.05) between groups. These results demonstrated that the use of Butaphosphan and Cyanocobalamin in dairy cows during the postpartum period, is effective in alleviating the negative energy balance and improving the productive performance, without causing liver overload.
