RESUMO

Nowadays dengue is one of major public health problems in the world and Brazil is the country where higher number of cases occurred (were noticed) in the last years. The possibility of having potential differences in the production of dengue cases in each area by their capacity of development of mosquito populations is not yet clear. The present study focuses (has it main interest) identifying factors related to the individual, the premise and the neighborhood in the dengue virus occurrence in urban area. Such investigation observed 1069 residents in 30 sentinel areas using seroincidence survey and data on environment characteristics from 1998 to 2000. Seroincidence average found in the period was 85% with no significant difference between the areas. PI higher then 1%, the presence of water storage vessels as main type of container found in the area more than 25 containers/km and population density higher than 14,810.3 inhabitants/km are strongly associated, statistically significant with positive seroincidence. Therefore the importance and necessity of changes in human behavior in order to prevent mosquito vector proliferation.
