RESUMO

Little is known about the effects of fragmentation in seedling community, which is the fIrst to suffer with the effects of fragmentation. The study of the patter of the regeneration is very important because it will determine the future composition of an area. In this context, this study had two aims: analyze the allometric relation between the largest horizontal crown axis and height, for a community of tree seedlings and saplings up to 1 m height in the Reserva Estadual do Morro Grande (ca. 11000 ha), Cotia, SP and analyse the mechanical damage caused by litter fall, by vertebrates, by humans and others in seedlings and saplings up to 100 cm of height placed in the edge and in the interior of three small fragments (14, 18 e 30ha ) and one large fragment (11000 ha with three replicates), Cotia, SP and in one small fragment (7.05 ha) placed in the Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas, RJ. The best adjust for the allometric relashionship was the potencial (r2 = 0.640, p
