RESUMO

The aim of this thesis consists of identifying in what ways leisure practices in rural social spaces shape new forms of lifestyle and of sociability in contemporary society and how the values of social distinction reveal themselves in these spaces. In order to reach this objective, an investigation is made of how owners of a second home represent leisure, as a dimension of lifestyle and a value-laden bearings that lead them to choosing a secondary home in a specific place. The support necessary for the development of this study is found in Bourdieu, especially through the concepts of taste, habitus and lifestyle, since, for him, habitus produces differenciated and differentiating practices to maintain a relationship of dependence vis-Ã-vis the set of positions that the agent takes up in the social space. We have also had recourse to studies by Simmel on sociability, which he defines as âthe play-form (ludens form) of socializationâ that allows one by it character, to relax, for some instants, from the climate of seriousness and hostilities present in everyday life. Although, for many people, a second home is a status symbol, and one of social distinction, it is also an important factor of sociability, that guides the choice of a specific place in which to have a lifestyle and form of leisure that takes in greater routine contact with family and friends, in an environment in which peace and freedom reign and there is integration among human beings reign, and in which they integrate with Nature
