RESUMO

Cyclones are equipment to separate solid particles from a spinning gaseous flow using centrifugal forces arising in a central vortex. Neverthless, ii this it took place a study to turning account a cyclone as a dryer. Crushed corncob particles were dried and their physical and geometrical properties, calorific value and specific heat were determined. The air temperature profiles were measured inside of cyclones with and without corncob particles. The influence of inlet air temperature, air and solid flowrates and particle granulometry influencies were analysed on the reduction of the moisture content of the solid particles through statistical analysis. Some experimental results of material characterization could be compared with literature data with a good agreement. The calorific value for dried corncobs was 3800 kcal/kg. Drying results showed that inlet air temperature (160 and 180 GRAUS C), the particle moisture content reduction was 3,89% the inlet air temperature increasing was 11%. The results also showed that increasing 22,35% of inlet air flowrate, a reduction of 10,75% on particle moisture content took place. On the order hand, increasing 15% of solid flowrate, decreased 15,17% the particle moisture content reduction. In order to achieve the desired final moisture of particles, 10% (w.b.) its was necessary to recycle the material ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations.
