RESUMO

The growth necessity to get higher separation efficiencies in the minimim space has incentivated the researchers to develop new kinds of equipment. The most employed equipment to carry out liquid-liquid extraction processes are the mechanically agitated ones because they provide better performances. Many other types of equipment are presented in literature. However, they have limited usage because of their low efficiencies. Trying to solve this problem the present work discuss about a new kind of liquid-liquid extraction column denominated Rotary Pallets Extractor .In addition, the procedure to arrange the experimental apparatus is shown. The influence of the operational and geometric parameters on the axial dispersion, the dispersed phase holdup and mass transfer phenomena are also studied. In the studied situations the behavior of axial dispersion was evaluated take in account the variations of the tracer concentration with the residence time .The dispersed phase holdup and the mass transfer data were obtained in simultaneous runs .After the system reach the steady state, samples were collected in the outlet streams .At this time, the system was closed down and the volumes of the phases were taken by direct measurement. The main objective of the present work was the attainment of the operational and geometric conditions that could provide higher separation efficiency and lower costs associated to equipment reduction size
