RESUMO

The arquictetonic paints are one of the sources of volatile organic compound s emission (VOCs) which affect the air quality indoors. These compounds can cause harm to people s health such as respiratories diseases, neurotoxic and carcinogenic effects, among other things. Besides, they contribute to troposferic ozone s formation. This study mainly aims at identifying the difference on VOC s emission of four arquictetonic paints seeking to inform the users of these products about the problems they can cause to the environment, occupational health and population s welfare. The results show that paints which contain organic solvent release 520 times more VOCs than those which contain water - low odour, compared in liquid condition. These results show that a wide discussion about this subject must be started in order to reduce these emissions that can cause damage to the society. Keywords: VOCs, arquitetonic paints, troposferic ozone, indoor air quality.
