RESUMO
In order to evaluate the effect of additives zeolite (clinoptilolite) and extract of Yucca schidigera (YSC) to domestic cats, two tests were conducted at the Center for Nutrition of Companion Animals (CENAC) Federal University of Lavras, MG. At first, 21 cats were randomly allocated to seven treatments: wet commercial diet (control), control + 125, 250 and 375ppm of YSC and control + 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0% zeolite in dry matter . In study 2, the palatability, the same cats received both wet commercial diet, with the addition of 375ppm of YSC and 1.0% of zeolite. In the first test there was no difference between the digestibility of nutrients, energy, gas area in the intestinal, urinary pH and volume and blood parameters. However, levels of 0.5 and 0.75% zeolite denoted effective in reducing both the odor (R2=96,39) and fecal score (R2=99,63), a quadratic behavior with respect to these variables. The levels of 125 and 375ppm of YSC also proved effective for the odor of feces, but did not adjust to the regression. In the second trial, there was no preference for animals in the tested diets, control and +375 ppm YSC control +1.0% zeolite. Thus, we can conclude that the inclusion of YSC and zeolite in tested levels did not influence the digestibility of nutrients, energy, gas formation, urine pH and palatability, and it is effective the inclusion of 125 and 375ppm YSC in reducing odor and 0.5 and 0.75% zeolite effective in reducing the odor and fecal scores of cats.
