Insulin-binding antibodies in relation to insulin therapy

RESUMO

Methods for detecting insulin binding or transporting antibodies are described, involving the use of radioactively labelled insulin (insulin 131I). These antibodies are detected in a high proportion of patients receiving insulin, particularly those requiring large doses. The protein fractions concerned appear to be the beta and gamma globulins. The significance of the phenomenon is discussed.
