RESUMO
The disappearance of a child is a complex phenomenon that affects the family system in various ways, but the sense of loss permeates all of them because, generally, the confirmation of the fact is watered the mystery and lack of family members, since no tend to have the possibility of losing a person in such manner. Thus, the issues involving the loss within the family context are too important before attempting to understand this phenomenon. This study aimed to understand the changes that the disappearance of a child causes the family structure and relationship of its members, identifying the coping strategies and mechanisms for restructuring these families facing this problem. Based our study on systemic familiar theory and implement a qualitative research study of a case with two families who were assisted by the Government of the Distrito Federal due to the disappearance of their children. In the first family, the loss was almost four years and the child was 11 years. In the second family the disappearance occurred 26 years ago, when the child was 03 years of age. Following data collection in record and interviews with families we were able to perform the construction of the Family lifeline and the Family Genogram and by using the content analysis for the treatment of data that were divided into categories: the family of origin, the formation of family , familys life cycle, family relationships before and after the disappearance, family functioning and the significant moments after the disappearance, the disappearance of a child, the States role, the search for solace and answers and family plans for the future. It was found that, given the sudden and mysterious disappearance, the families had universal but singular forms to express their grief and cope with the loss. Found an ambiguity in the discourse of families, while they express anger, fear, guilt, helplessness, sadness, disbelief, hope, faith and denial. The unexpected departure of a member of the family system requires the system to restructure, adapting to new roles, relationships and emotional borders. In the families studied we found that after the loss occurs in several members of the family were found somatic manifestations and drug abuse. Are still, for the brothers disappeared, earnings side with the disappearance and temporary parental child. The families used different strategies to deal with the problem, but in general, we find characteristics of family resilience. The open communication of feelings, faith and hope of finding the loved and the future plans to move and maintain these systems so healthy. We discuss the role of the media and the State in this type of loss and finally suggest that this theme is part of the agenda of various policies of State, such as Social Welfare, Education, Health and Public Safety.
