ISLÃ E MODERNIDADE: um estudo sobre a comunidade muçulmana em Belo Horizonte

RESUMO
This dissertation loocked for to approach the transformation occurred in Muslim community in Minas Gerais. The Muslim Beneficent Society of Minas Gerais (SBM), was founded in 1961 by Syrian and Lebanese families that since before the half of the last century acted in the trade of de city. The initial objective of the group was to preserve habits and custom, as well as the history and the identity. In 1989 the fundamental stone for construction of the Mosque of Belo Horizonte was established and in 1991 it was ended. Now the group is composed by immigrants and their descendants, for Muslim foreigners that live in Brazil and for mineiros without Muslim origin that convert to the islam. The movement of conversions lets to glimpse changes in the composition of the group, factor that also justifies this study. Thus, Muslim community from Minas Gerais is maintaining discreet relationship with the local society, no wadays, the community is growing though it is constituting itself with new configuration
