RESUMO

System Models that include biochemical variables, which are indicative of river water quality, are tools with great potential to assist in watershed management enabling the development of scenarios and previewing possible impacts in rivers. Therefore it is possible to propose solutions and mitigating measures to solve different possible problems related to river quality. This work proposes a systemic model of rivers quality based on energy systems language developed by H. T. ODUM. From an energy system diagram, are derived: the mathematical model, the flow coefficients and the dynamic simulation of the main elements of the Mogi-Guaçu river. The proposed model was validated by comparing the results obtained in simulation with empirical data available in literature. Model results showed good agreement with experimental data. Future conditions scenarios of Mogi-Guaçu river were created, which were targeted in accordance with various public policies environmental, land use, population and industrial growth. Scenarios are able to show how each parameter, related to human changes, can influence river quality. Scenarios of interactions between different variables were analyzed and showed that, even with the unavoidable growth of industry and population, combined with climate changes, the treatment of domestic sewage can be a key element for maintaining the quality of Mogi-Guaçu river
