RESUMO
This writing is a result of the research programme in the Master Degree of Visual Arts, supplied by Escola de Belas Artes from Universidade Federal da Bahia, in the field of creative processes. It analyses, from the aesthetic point of view, the way the body is presented on videoart, as well as evaluate the physical impositions encouraged by the fashion and advertisement industries. The subject of the dissertation is the body, its inscriptions and happenings. The aim is to understand better the processes of creation in perfomance art and videoart through four video installations produced between 2000 and 2003 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The first one which is called O inferno de Narciso (?The hell of Narciso?) considers the narcissistic relations in contemporary society. Passarela (?Footbridge?) proposes the dialogue between images of typical beds used in hospitals ? that symbolises the body being transformed and cured ? with virtual images from catwalks, fashion shows and from ironic footbridges, ?catwalks? of the social life. The third one, Corpos Interditados (?Interdicted bodies?), shows the relation between the body that cannot suffer interventions and the modified body. On the last one, O corpo como inscrição de acontecimentos (?The body as an inscription of happennings?), the concept of the work is to present the body with its implicit social, economical and historical load
