RESUMO

The sands of quartzite, object of this study come from the region of Ouro Preto and Mariana constitute the minings waste of the rock, which is extracted mainly to be used in civil construction like ornamental purposes in the form of plates of floors and coatings. The mining and beneficiation of quartz in the region generates a large quantity of waste which are released on the slopes of the hills, have caused large environmental impact. For this reason, this work aimed to purify the sands from the rubble in the front of mine, using froth flotation in order to add value to the material. The tests were performed in laboratory, using flotation on bench, to the removal of impurities. To this, were used as collectors fatty acid (soybean oil) and Aero Promoter 845 (succinamate). The best results were obtained for the rotation of the flotation cell of 1000 RPM, with collector conditioning time of 7 minutes, 300 g/t collector of soybean oil, solid percentage of 30 %, with the stage of attrition and without the smallest fraction to 0,037 mm for the fatty acid collector. The collector succinamate, even at lower dosages, showed results similar to fatty acid and is therefore more efficient. The best dosage found was 100 g/t for this collector. The analysis in one of the tests with soybean oil in the samples in front of mine and disassemble hydraulic showed that some fractions of the concentrate had the specifications required for the manufacture of glass sand. The concentrate of most tests showed the required specifications, except the levels of TiO2.
