RESUMO

The spark out stage occupies a very large percentage of the whole plunge grinding cycle. So. to reduce the grinding cycle is very interesting to have the shortest spark out stage. To get there, i.e., to get the shortest spark out stage, this work uses the accelerated spark out cycle (proposed in the literature), implemented with the help of the monitoring of the acoustic emission generated by the process. The experiments were divided in two phases: the first phase of experiments had the purpose of verifying the feasibility of using acoustic emission monitoring to establish the necessary parameters to implement the accelerated spark out. The second phase had the purpose to implement the accelerated spark out and compare it with the conventional cycle in terms of time and part quality (surface finish and circularity). The results show that acoustic emission is a very good way to get the parameters to implement the accelerated spark out and also show that the accelerated cycle does not damage the quality part, by the contrary, the surface finish is even better with this kind of cycle
