RESUMO

It is a very complex task to see vocal disorders as an illness associated with working activities. It requires leads us to investigate working environmental conditions, be familiar with employee s professional and personal history, and analyze inappropriate vocal habits. Other factors, we must investigate include factors outside of work concerned with health, including the quality of life, which is determined by physical, biological, social, psychosocial and environmental factors. The objective of this research was to study the connections among working conditions, quality of life and voice perception in the teachers and, specifically, to identify the presence of vocal complaints, to relate vocal complaints with gender, and to associate vocal complaints with health and working conditions, as well as to evaluate the impact of voice on these teachers quality of life. Methodology:Subjects of this study were 319 teachers, 199 female and 120 male, who are presently working in city schools of Belo Horizonte. Ali of them answered three self-explanatory and self-answered protocols according to the following stages: professional and personal history, quality of life indicators and evaluation of the perception of quality of life and voice. The results indicated that 155 (48.9%) of the sample presented complaints, 106 (33.4%) of the females and 49 (15.4%) of the males. However, in vocal complaint factors, gender was not considered to be a significant variable. Considered to be a significant statistically correlations between vocal complaint and gastric problems, psychiatric problems, emotional problems, high sound intolerance, rhinitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, allergy, exposure to dust and to noise were found. The global score of WHOQOL-Bref was 63. The global score of QVV was 82.8, which is considered a good score because it is close to 100. Conclusion: The number of working school teachers who present vocal complaints is significant; there is no relation between vocal complaint and gender; there are indicators of health conditions and environmental factors that are unfavorable for work; the negative impact of the voice on the quality of life was considered to be low
