RESUMO

To verify the prevalence of MS and its risck factors in accarding to the nutritional classification and the level of insulin resistance, their your mean values, as well as which variables have larger explanation power and to compare the family history, alimentary habits and physical activity in schoolchildren. Methods: After BMI screening of 1550 children of 10 public and 4 private school, 109 children both sexes of public schools were selected of the sample (55 obese, 23 overweigth, 31 control). The stratification of the classification nutritional was accomplished in agreement with the norms of CDC. The fast blood was used for measur the glucose, HDL, triglyceride, insulin and calculation of the insulin resistance. Were measured also: body fat through DXA, blood pressure and antropometrics measures: weight, height, hip and waist. MS was defined according to the of modified NCEP criteria. Results: MS was only found in obese children (13,3% in boys and 39% in girls) and in those whose insulin resistance was larger (7,4% in the third quartil and 40,7% in the fourth quartil of HOMA), and as larger the nutritional classification and the insulin resistance level, larger the prevalence and the mean values of the factors of diagnosis of MS. The model that had larger explanation power in SM was composed by three variables (insulin, HDL and BPD). The family history of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases didn t differ among children has diagnistic of MS. Most of the alimentary habits and of physical activity it didn t differ among children with and without the presence of MS. Conclusion: Obese and insulin resistance children has high prevalence of MS, as well as larger amount of risk factor. However, these data suggest that current strategies directed to the controlling the weight and consequent increase of insulin resistance are necessary during the childhood.
