RESUMO

In this work we developed a series of electronic equiprnents which generate current or potential waveshapes appropriated for the study of the several aspects of the eletrochemical processes. Detailed circuits and a description of the apparatus are presented, associated with its corresponding technique: (a) current interruption technique for caracterizing electrode interfaces; (b) pulsed current deposition technique, for a controlled metal film deposition; (c) narrow width current pulses technique for caracterizing the EMF decay of the eletrochemical processes. Our measurements were in good agreement with those reported in the literature suggesting that the methods presented here are a new and convenient form of characterizing electrode processes. The applications of narrow width pulses to an electrochemical cell simulating alkaline water electrolysers, shows that the REH (Hydrongen Evolution reaction) kinetics is gradually modyfied by the current. We propose that this is due to the variation of the density of state function of the polycrystal nickel surface due to a gradual absorption of the hydrogen, forming a nickel hydride
