The Santa Rosa dei Monday community in Paraguay is situated approximately 80 km far from the border that separates the two countries - Brazil and Paraguay. lt has a population of 12.738 inhabitants, 1,760 in the urban area and 10,978 in the rural area. From this figure, 85% are Brazilian immigrants, German descendents. The colonization process of Santa Rosa dei Monday began in the 1970 s when the first Brazilian colonists arrived there. As an original region of displacement, the immigrants have in common the same region of origin - Rio Grande do Sul. Broadly, the Brazilian immigrants are known as Brasiguaios , however, this denomination is rejected by the group due to its pejorative connotation. The Brazilian immigrants in Santa Rosa deI Monday identify themselves as German descendants. Besides their German family names, they also have a good command of the language. These immigrants have taken to Paraguay not only Portuguese and German languages, but also their tradition and cuhure. This study shows the history of the Brazilian immigrants in Santa Rosa deI Monday and its aim is to characterize the spoken community of immigrants, establishing and analyzing their linguistic repertoire, describing the linguistic usage in the community in its internal and external relations. It is an attempt to define specific domains of the different languages
