RESUMO

The urea is subject to significant losses of nitrogen by immobilization, mainly by leaching and volatilization, an alternative to minimize these losses is the pretreatment with an inhibitor of urease, the NBPT [N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide]. The objective was to evaluate, in a commercial field, the effect of coverage on application of different levels of urea treated or not with NBPT on the development and productivity of maize, under no-till system, in Mauá da Serra ? PR. The plots consisted of 6 lines of spacing of 0.70 meters and 8.0 meters in length. The experimental design was a randomized block design with 12 treatments and 5 replicates, arranged in a factor of 2 x 6, including 2 sources of nitrogen and 6 levels of nitrogen in coverage. No statistical difference between the sources used for the evaluation of productivity of maize, the levels of protein in grain and leaves for the evaluation of Total-N, nitrate and ammonium. With the increase of N rate applied was significant response to the productivity and level of N-total. And the method of scanning the leaves proved to be a promising tool for diagnosing the deficiency of N in the culture. However, the experiment was for excessive rain that occurred at the 3, 4 and 5 days after application of N.
