RESUMO

The possibility of tin-nickel alloy coating application in electric contacts used in low voltage-Iow current through the study of its properties is presented. The samples were prepared with a commercial bath and the proportion of the elements in the alloy were 65% of tin and 35% of nickel in weight. The alloy composition and structure were analised by X Rays diffaction. The corrosion resistance of the tin-nickel alloy coating in an aqueous solution medium was analysed electrochemically. To compare the results the same experiment was made with nickel coating. The thermal behaviour for tin-nickel and nickel coatings were obtained using differencial scanning calorimetry and the results show that the materiaIs present thermal stability until 300°C. The electrical resistivity of tin-nickel, nickel and cooper coating were obtained by a four probe measurement using a digital voltameter. The results obtained from the analisys show that tin-nickel eletrodeposited coatings can be used in electrical contacts for low voltage-Iow current preferentially as an undercoating for gold
