RESUMO

To evaluate the effect of supplemented diets with different vitamin C levels for "trairão" (Hoplias lacerdae) two experiments were conducted. In the first, entitled: Vitamin C in diets for feed training of the trairão fingerlings (Hoplias lacerdae), it was aimed to evaluate the effect of the vitamin C supplementation in diets of trairão fingerlings during the feed training. In the second, denominated: Vitamin C supplementation in diets for trairão (Hoplias lacerdae) fingerlings, the effect of vitamin C supplementation was evaluated in diets of the development of trairão (Hoplias lacerdae) fingerlings. The vitamin C influences the uniformity of the final length of trairão fingerlings during the feed training, and the level of 52.5 mg of vitamin C/kg of feed provided more uniform animals, while, after the feed training, a more uniform group for the final length was found compared with the one from an absent vitamin C diet. No significant difference was observed for the weight and length gains and for the rates of survival and cannibalism of the fish fed with vitamin C supplemented diets, in the evaluated experiments. There were also no detections of clinical signs of the vitamin C deficiency or of its excess. The radiological analysis confirmed the absence of deformities in the studied fish. Vitamin C supplementation influences the fatty acid composition in the feed training. The fish conditioned to accept dry diets showed larger concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids, when compared with the fish collected in culture tank. Fatty acids of the omega 3 family were found in larger concentration in the fish from the feed training. The obtained data from both experiments allow to conclude that the vitamin C influences the uniformity of the final length and fatty acid composition of fish carcass.
