1. Mollusk bycatch in trawl fisheries targeting the Atlantic seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri on the coast of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil
Abstract The malacofauna bycatch of sea-bob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862) trawl fisheries on the coast of Sergipe was studied for 5 years. The malacofauna bycatch considered was obtained in nine oceanographic sampling campaigns carried out between May 1999 and June 2003 in 18 stations distributed in six transects along depths of 10, 20 and 30 m.

2. Soft-bodied benthic algae in pristine Brazilian streams: from acid to karst
ABSTRACT This study evaluated soft-bodied benthic algae from seven streams located in protected areas of central Brazil (Parque Nacional de Brasília, Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros and Parque Estadual de Terra Ronca), and related them to abiotic factors. We addressed the following questions: A) how algal community structure in Cerrado streams is i

3. Metrics of benthic communities and habitat quality associated to different types of land use

4. Ecomorphological relationships of fish assemblages in a trans-Andean drainage, Upper Magdalena River Basin, Colombia
ABSTRACT Ecomorphological patterns of the fish community were evaluated in the trans-Andean Alvarado River drainage, Colombia. A total of 29 species using 25 ecomorphological indices were analyzed to test how well the ecomorphological patterns are related to the fish assemblage. Although a significant correlation was found (Mantel test) between morphological

5. Intra- and inter-annual variations in Chironomidae (Insecta: Diptera) communities in subtropical streams
The structure and composition of stream benthic communities are strongly influenced by spatial and temporal factors. This study evaluated the intra and inter-annual variations in Chironomidae communities in subtropical streams. The organisms were sampled from 10 small-order streams during the summer and winter of 2010-2012. The number of chironomid specimens

6. Nutrient enrichment effect on macroinvertebrates in a lowland stream of Argentina
ABSTRACT One of the most important effects derived from the intensive land use is the increase of nutrient concentration in the aquatic systems due to superficial drainage. Besides, the increment of precipitations in South America connected to the global climate change could intensify these anthropic impacts due to the changes in the runoff pattern and a gre

7. Variación espacio-temporal de Chironomidae (Diptera) bentónicos y derivantes en un arroyo serrano en Córdoba, Argentina
Chironomidae is one of the most abundant and diverse families in freshwater ecosystems, however its highly complex systematic has led to its scarce development in many limnological studies. The aim of this study was to analyze benthic and drifting Chironomidae assemblages in a mountain stream of central Argentina assessing abundance, diversity and taxa compo

8. Bacterial diversity in relatively pristine and anthropogenically-influenced mangrove ecosystems (Goa, India)
To appreciate differences in benthic bacterial community composition at the relatively pristine Tuvem and the anthropogenically-influenced Divar mangrove ecosystems in Goa, India, parallel tag sequencing of the V6 region of 16S rDNA was carried out. We hypothesize that availability of extraneously-derived anthropogenic substrates could act as a stimulatant b

9. Effects of spatial and environmental factors on benthic a macroinvertebrate community
Interactions between terrestrial and aquatic systems influence the structure of river habitats and, consequently, affect their benthic macroinvertebrate composition. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of spatial and environmental variables (local physical and chemical variables of water and regional landscape characteristics) on the benthic ma

10. The spatial distribution of the subtidal benthic macrofauna and its relationship with environmental factors using geostatistical tools: a case study in Trapandé Bay, southern Brazil
Modeling the distribution patterns of the estuarine macrobenthic community has revealed itself as a difficult task due to spatio-temporal heterogeneity. This study uses ordinary kriging and Poisson modeling to generate distribution maps of the subtidal benthic macrofauna in the Trapandé Bay (southeastern Brazil). Samples were taken in duplicate from 36 loca

11. Organização trófica da comunidade de peixes de poças de maré da Praia dos Castelhanos (ES), Atlântico sudoeste tropical / Trophic organization of the tidepool fish community of Praia dos Castelhanos (ES), southwestern tropical Atlantic
The identification of the trophic groups is fundamental to understanding the factors responsible for organizing and structuring the communities. Accordingly, the present study was conducted in the tidepools of Praia dos Castelhanos, located in the Espírito Santo State, southeastern Brazil, in order to describe the trophic organization of the fish community,

12. Avaliação da defesa química e da influência dos corais invasores Tubastraea coccinea e Tubastraea tagusensis na estruturação das comunidades bentônicas da Baía da Ilha Grande RJ / Assessment of chemical defense and negative impact of the invasive corals Tubastraea coccínea and Tubastraea tagusensis on benthic community structure in Ilha Grande Bay - RJ
Este arsenal químico e as interaç
