1. Coupling DLLME-CE for the Stereoselective Analysis of Venlafaxine and Its Main Metabolites after Biotransformation by Fungi
Fungal biotransformations have become very important in the study of chiral drugs because the reactions performed by these microorganisms may be enantioselective. However, analyses of analytes present in liquid culture medium have proved to be very difficult due to the complexity of this matrix. The aim of this work was to couple dispersive liquid-liquid mic

2. The Multiple Faces of Eugenol. A Versatile Starting Material and Building Block for Organic and Bio-Organic Synthesis and a Convenient Precursor Toward Bio-Based Fine Chemicals
Phenylpropenes are produced by plants as part of their defense strategy against microorganisms and animals, and also as floral attractants of pollinators. Eugenol, the main component of clove’s essential oil, is an inexpensive and easily available phenylpropene that has been known by humankind since antiquity, and used as a medicinal agent, but also for fo

3. Microbial production of biovanillin
This review aims at providing an overview on the microbial production of vanillin, a new alternative method for the production of this important flavor of the food industry, which has the potential to become economically competitive in the next future. After a brief description of the applications of vanillin in different industrial sectors and of its physic

4. Transformações biológicas: contribuições e perspectivas
In a moment that amazingly advances are being reached on the development of technologies to obtain high value chemical compounds as polymers, fine chemicals, pharmaceutical industry intermediates and chemical entities, we cannot refuse that a meaningful progress is due to the maturing in knowledge of biological transformations. Biocatalysis and biotransforma

5. Biotranformation of epoxides with seawater microorganisms and sinthesys of racemic chloroidrines / Biotransformação de epóxidos com fungos de origem marinha e síntese de cloroidrinas

6. Biotransformações de cetonas aromáticas e cíclicas promovidas por fungos / Biotransformations of cyclic and aromatic ketones by fungi
In this work, we evaluated the enzymatic potential of different Aspergillus strains, through the biotransformations of two substrates: 2- and 4-methylcyclohexanone (1a e 1b). All the strains employed showed alcohol dehydrogenase and Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenase (CPMO and CHMO) activities. These enzymes can perform ketone biorreduction and oxidation. Using t

7. Biocatálise: avanços recentes
The work here presented was based on 4th International Symposium on Biocatalysis and Biotransformations "BIOTRANS '99" held in Giardini - Naxos, Italy, from september 26 to October 1, 1999. Some of the lectures presented during the congress will be comented which exemplifies the technological inovations and the actual tendencies in the area of biocatalysis.

8. Thermophilic biotransformations of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene under simulated composting conditions.
The biotransformations of 14C-labeled 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene by thermophilic microorganisms in a compost system were determined. The reduction products identified in solvent extracts were similar to those identified in mesophilic systems. A significant percentage of the 14C-labeled products were bound to humus fractions.

9. The University of Minnesota Biocatalysis/Biodegradation Database: post-genomic data mining
The University of Minnesota Biocatalysis/Biodegradation Database (UM-BBD, http://umbbd.ahc.umn.edu/) provides curated information on microbial catabolism and related biotransformations, primarily for environmental pollutants. Currently, it contains information on over 130 metabolic pathways, 800 reactions, 750 compounds and 500 enzymes. In the past two years

11. Biotransformations of 1',2'-dihydrorotenone by Streptomyces griseus.
Dihydrorotenone yields three major products when incubated with growing cultures of Streptomyces griseus. These were isolated by solvent extraction and characterized by spectral methods as 1',2'-dihydro-6abeta-hydroxyrotenone, 1',2'-dihydro-2',6abeta-dihydroxyrotenone, and 1',2'-dihydro-1',6abeta-dihydroxyrotenone.

12. Nutrition-endocrine interactions: induction of reciprocal changes in the delta 4-5 alpha-reduction of testosterone and the cytochrome P-450-dependent oxidation of estradiol by dietary macronutrients in man.
The in vivo biotransformations of drugs known to be metabolized by enzymes localized in the endoplasmic reticulum of liver can be greatly altered by diet in humans, as we have shown previously. Steroid hormones also are metabolized extensively by hepatic microsomal enzymes; therefore, we examined the possibility that testosterone and estradiol biotransformat
