1. Upstream dam impacts on gilded catfish Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) in the Bolivian Amazon
ABSTRACT This paper explores the effects of two run-of-river dams (Jirau and Santo Antônio) built in cascade in the middle Madeira River (Brazil) on the interruption of long-distance migration routes of the gilded catfish (Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii). A participative monitoring system was set up to compare capture by commercial fishers approximately 1500

2. Survey of fish species from the Lower Roosevelt River, Southwestern Amazon basin

3. Evaluation of the Blue Crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 Bycatch in Artisanal Fisheries in Southern Brazil
ABSTRACT We evaluated the incidental catch of the blue crab in artisanal fisheries through the analysis of sex ratio, catch per unit effort, net positioning, and size in which the capture probability was 50% (P50). The specimens were collected from 2011 to 2013 in the estuary of Patos Lagoon, southern Brazil. The analysis showed a higher occurrence of males.

4. Sampling technique affects the population structure assessments of fiddler crab Minuca vocator (Herbst, 1804) (Ocypodidae: Gelasiminae)
Abstract We examined how the sampling technique can affect the evaluation of Minuca vocator (Herbst, 1804) population structure. We used two sampling procedures: catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) and quadrat technique (QT). Body size, size-frequency distribution, population density, juvenile recruitment rates, proportion of ovigerous females and sex ratio were co

5. Depletion of trophy large-sized sharks populations of the Argentinean coast, south-western Atlantic: insights from fishers' knowledge
Abstract Globally, sharks are impacted by a wide range of human activities, resulting in many populations being depleted. Trophy large-sized sharks of the Argentinean coast, the sand-tiger Carcharias taurus , the copper Carcharhinus brachyurus and the sevengill shark Notorynchus cepedianus are under intense sport and artisanal fishing since the 50's decade.

7. Interação com a pesca: implicações na conservação da toninha, Pontoporia blainvillei (Cetacea, Pontoporiidae) no litoral do estado de São Paulo, SP / Fisheries interactions: implications on the conservation of franciscana, Pontoporia blainvillei (Cetacea, Pontoporiidae) in the coastal area of São Paulo state
The scope of this study is to investigate the interactions of gillnet fishing and the accidental captures of the Pontoporia blainvillei, as well as the implications of this activity in species conservation. Therefore, fishing activities are described and analyzed, accidental captures are evaluated, mortality is estimated and some aspects of population struct

8. ProspecÃÃo do estoque de robalo-peva (Centropomus parallelus) no litoral do ParanÃ, atravÃs da pesca esportiva / Prospecting of the stock of bass-peva (Centropomus parallelus) on the Parana coast, through the sport fishing
The snooks are fishes very appreciated food item by fish consumers and recreational fishermen, for they are endowed with a high quality flesh and put up a fierce fight when captured with line-and-hook. Such characteristics make this taxon a target for a host of users, objectives and needs (commercial and recreational fishing) which, together with loss of hab

9. Padronização do índice de abundância e avaliação do estoque de bonito listrado, (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758), do Atlântico Ocidental.
In this paper data on catch, fishing effort and landings from the Brazilian baitboat fishery, together with information on vessel characteristics were analyzed aiming to: (a) describe the fishery and characteristics of the fishing fleet, analyze catch composition and spatial and temporal distribution of catches, fishing effort and catch rates of skipjack (Ka

10. DistribuiÃÃo e abundÃnia relativa de peixes e crustÃceos capturados no programa REVIZEE/Score-NE na plataforma externa e talude da costa do Nordeste do Brasil
From 27/10/1997 to 19/11/2000, as part of the REVIZEE1 Program, 27 exploratory fishing cruises were done along the external margin of the continental shelf and slope, off northeast Brazil, using bottom longline and traps as fishing gears. The relative abundance of the species caught was analyzed through the Catch per Unit of Effort (CPUE), as the number of s

In this work we studied, from data obtained from sensors on board satellites, monthly and seasonal patterns of physical and biological parameters on the Tropical Atlantic, the area between the latitudes 30 Â N - 30 Â S and longitudes 80 Â W - 5 Â E. The physical environment (temperature of the sea surface, measured by the sensor VHRR and wind, measured b
