1. Calcined Clay Lightweight Ceramics Made with Wood Sawdust and Sodium Silicate
This paper aims to study the influence of including wood sawdust and sodium silicate in the production process of calcined clay lightweight ceramics. In the production process first, a sample used by a company that produces ceramic products in Brazil was collected. The sample was analysed by techniques of liquidity (LL) and plasticity (LP) limits, particle s

2. Properties of SiC Ceramics Sintered via Liquid Phase Using Al2O3 + Y2O3, Al2O3 + Yb2O3 and Al2O3 + Dy2O3 as Additives: a Comparative Study
Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramics show excellent performance at high temperatures. Due to the high covalence of Si-C bonds, these ceramics are produced successfully only via liquid phase sintering (LPS). In this work, SiC ceramics were sintered via LPS using eutectic mixtures of Al2O3+Y2O3, which served as a standard for comparison, Al2O3+Yb2O3 and Al2O3+Dy2O3.

3. Cell response of calcium phosphate based ceramics, a bone substitute material
The aim of this study was to characterize calcium phosphate ceramics with different Ca/P ratios and evaluate cell response of these materials for use as a bone substitute. Bioceramics consisting of mixtures of hydroxyapatite (HAp) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powders in different proportions were pressed and sintered. The physical and chemical proper

4. Incorporação de resíduos de placas de circuitos impressos (RPCI) em massas cerâmicas triaxiais utilizando experimentos com misturas / Incorporation of waste printed circuit boards (WPCB) in triaxial ceramic bodies using experiments with mixtures
The aim of this work is evaluate the effect of incorporation of waste printed circuit boards (WPCB) in physical and mechanical properties of triaxial ceramics for coating. Through the technique of experiment with mixtures seven formulations were developed with clay (40, 53, 60 e 80%); phyllite (20, 33, 40 e 60%) and waste (0, 14, 20 e 40%). The WPCB was char

5. Influence of starch type on characteristics of porous 3Y-ZrO2 prepared from a direct consolidation casting method
Starch consolidation casting has been successfully used to produce porous ceramics with complex shapes at a relatively low producing cost. In this work, porous 3Y-ZrO2 ceramics were produced using two types of starch (corn and potato). Concentrated (50-52 vol. (%)) aqueous suspensions of the different 3Y-ZrO2-starch mixtures (i.e. starch to zirconia weight r

6. Influence of additive system (Al2O3-RE2O3 , RE = Y, La, Nd, Dy, Yb) on microstructure and mechanical properties of silicon nitride-based ceramics
Silicon nitride based ceramics have been widely used as structural ceramics, due mainly to their thermo-mechanical properties such as high density, high thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance and chemical stability. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of rare earth and aluminum oxide additions as sintering aids on densification, micr

7. Processamento e caracterização física e mecânica de cerâmicas de zircônia-ítria total e parcialmente nanoestruturadas / Physical and mechanical characterization of total and partially nanostructured zirconia-yttria ceramics
In this work the behavior of nanostructured and partially nanostructured zirconia-yttria ceramics is analyzed during the compacting and sintering processes. The evaluation of the mechanical properties (flexure strength, fracture toughness and hardness) also is presented. They were studied two groups: one composed by a microparticulate powder obtained through

9. Valorização de resíduos industriais como fonte alternativa mineral : composições cerâmicas e cimentíceas
This present work describes studies of valorization of wastes as alternative raw materials. Different industrial wastes, based on the SiO2-Al2O3-CaO system and classified as non-hazardous, were selected: Al-rich anodizing sludge, sludge from the filtration/clarification of potable water, sludge generated in ornamental stone-cutting processes, and foundry san

10. Development, microstructural and mechanical caracterization of SiC ceramics with alumina and rare earth oxides additions / Desenvolvimento, caracterização microestrutural e mecânica de cerâmicas de SiC aditivadas com alumina e óxidos de terras raras
In this work, the mechanical properties are determined at room temperature (hardness and fracture toughness) and high temperatures (compressive creep) of SiC ceramic samples with alumina (Al2O3) and rare earth oxides (REO) additions. The REO is obtained by REC (rare earth concentrate - Nuclemon) calcinations, which contains 76 wt % of yttria (Al2O3). Three c

11. Complex-shaped ceramic composites obtained by machining compact polymer-filler mixtures
Research in the preparation of ceramics from polymeric precursors is giving rise to increased interest in ceramic technology because it allows the use of several promising polymer forming techniques. In this work ceramic composite pieces were obtained by pyrolysis of a compacted mixture of a polysiloxane resin and alumina/silicon powder. The mixture consists
