1. Low-Overhead Low-Complexity Carrier Phase Recovery Technique for Coherent Multi-Band OFDM-Based Superchannel Systems Enabled by Optical Frequency Combs
Abstract In this paper, we have designed a low-overhead low-complexity carrier phase tracking scheme for OFDM-based superchannel transmission system enabled by optical frequency combs. In this scheme, taking advantage of the broadband phase coherence provided by optical frequency combs among the OFDM-bands, the carrier phase retrieved from pilot-subcarriers

2. Directional Coupler Based on a Photonic Quasi-Crystal Fiber with Extended Cores
Abstract In this paper, an optical coupler composed by a photonic quasi-crystal fiber (PQCF) with two cores is proposed. The structure is obtained by immersion of a quasi-periodic arrangement of air holes replicated twelve-fold in a conventional fiber optical constituted of pure silica. The cores are generated from defects caused due to absence of two air ho

3. Chromatic Dispersion of an Optical Fiber Based on Photonic Quasicrystals with Twelve-Fold Symmetry and its Application as Directional Coupling
Abstract Optical fibers composed by photonic quasicrystals it is based on aperiodic structures characterized by at least two different symmetrical patterns from the base matrix. In this work, an optical fiber composed by quasi-periodic and symmetric matrix was analyzed using the finite element method in conjunction with cylindrical perfectly matched layers.

4. Design of highly birefringent holey fibers with near-zero ultra-flattened chromatic dispersion and ultralow confinement loss
We present a holey fiber (HF) with elliptical air-holes located in the center core area that ensures high birefringence, near-zero ultra-flattened chromatic dispersion and very low confinement losses in a wide wavelength range. The finite element method with perfectly matched boundary layer is used to investigate the guiding properties. It is demonstrated th

5. Effect of Fiber Optic Chromatic Dispersion on the Performance of Analog Optical Link with External Modulation Aiming at Aerospace Applications
ABSTRACT: This paper addresses the subject of fiber optic chromatic dispersion effect on the performance of analog optical link with dual-drive electro-optic Mach-Zehnder modulator, aiming at aerospace applications. Thus, a direct detection link model that emphasizes both the modulator electronic drive and the dispersion characteristic of a linear optical fi

6. Analysis of signal processing techniques for optical 112 Gb/s DP-QPSK receivers with experimental data
This paper evaluates several signal processing techniques for optical dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) coherent receivers, using offline post-processing of experimental data. In addition to electronically separating the two polarization multiplexed signals, the investigated signal processing algorithms also compensate for chromatic d

7. Study on dual-concentric-core dispersion compensation photonic crystal fiber
The dual-concentric-core photonic crystal fiber composed of pure silica and air is proposed in this paper. Around 1.55 ¼m, it exhibits a negative chromatic dispersion as high as -5850 ps/km/nm. Based on multipole method, a systemic and in-depth simulation is realized to investigate the mode characteristics. The explanations to propagation states of the fund

8. Study of special modulation formats for optical communication / Estudo de formatos especiais na modulação digital para comunicações ópticas
This MSc thesis investigates optical modulation formats as an alternative to the use of the traditional intensity binary format NRZ (Non-return-to-zero). Those formats, classified as advanced, represent one of the key technologies aimed to enable the high data volume and broadband, demanded by the present telecommunication market, with cost reduction of tran

10. The characterization of step index single mode silica fiber for long haul signal communication
The optical properties of single mode fibers, which are drawn from the silica preform made by MCVD technique, have been studied. The properties such as cutoff wavelength, chromatic dispersion, and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) were studied for 2.3 km length of single mode fiber (SMF). The cutoff wavelength was measured by fiber optic test procedure (FOT
