1. Evo-devo of non-bilaterian animals
The non-bilaterian animals comprise organisms in the phyla Porifera, Cnidaria, Ctenophora and Placozoa. These early-diverging phyla are pivotal to understanding the evolution of bilaterian animals. After the exponential increase in research in evolutionary development (evo-devo) in the last two decades, these organisms are again in the spotlight of evolution

2. Horizontal and vertical distribution of mesozooplankton species richness and composition down to 2,300 m in the southwest Atlantic Ocean
We describe the species richness, distribution and composition of mesozooplankton over the continental shelf and slope, and in the water masses in the Campos Basin, southwest Atlantic Ocean. We analyzed the mesozooplankton from two oceanographic cruises (rainy and dry seasons, 2009) with samples taken in five different water masses from the surface to 2,300

3. Composição, distribuição, biomassa e produção secundária do zooplâncton do Sistema estuarino de Santos, São Paulo, Brasil / Composition, distribution, biomass and secondary production of the zooplamkton of Santos estuarine system, São Paulo, Brazil

4. Ctenóforos da costa brasileira: considerações taxonômicas e biológicas / On the systematics and biology of the ctenophores from Brazilian coast
The phylum Ctenophora is pour studied in Brazil. Species records for the Brazilian coast are scarce in the literature. The distribution patterns and abundance of ctenophores in the region are almost unknown. The scarcity of data aims mostly to the difficulties in collecting and preserving specimens. This study consisted in an effort to increase knowledge on

6. Digenean metacercaria (Trematoda, Digenea, Lepocreadiidae) parasitizing "coelenterates" (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa and Ctenophora) from Southeastern Brazil

7. Evaluating multiple alternative hypotheses for the origin of Bilateria: An analysis of 18S rRNA molecular evidence
Six alternative hypotheses for the phylogenetic origin of Bilateria are evaluated by using complete 18S rRNA gene sequences for 52 taxa. These data suggest that there is little support for three of these hypotheses. Bilateria is not likely to be the sister group of Radiata or Ctenophora, nor is it likely that Bilateria gave rise to Cnidaria or Ctenophora. In

8. Evaluating hypotheses of basal animal phylogeny using complete sequences of large and small subunit rRNA
We studied the evolutionary relationships among basal metazoan lineages by using complete large subunit (LSU) and small subunit (SSU) ribosomal RNA sequences for 23 taxa. After identifying competing hypotheses, we performed maximum likelihood searches for trees conforming to each hypothesis. Kishino–Hasegawa tests were used to determine whether the da

9. Class-level relationships in the phylum Cnidaria: evidence from mitochondrial genome structure.
The phylogenetic relationships of the Recent cnidarian classes remain one of the classic problems in invertebrate zoology. We survey the structure of the mitochondrial genome in representatives of the four extant cnidarian classes and in the phylum Ctenophora. We find that all anthozoan species tested possess mtDNA in the form of circular molecules, whereas

10. The Unique Morgue Ubiquitination Protein Is Conserved in a Diverse but Restricted Set of Invertebrates
Drosophila Morgue is a unique ubiquitination protein that facilitates programmed cell death and associates with DIAP1, a critical cell death inhibitor with E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Morgue possesses a unique combination of functional domains typically associated with distinct types of ubiquitination enzymes. This includes an F box characteristic of the s
