1. Structural characterization and bioactivities of a polysaccharide from the stalk residue of Pleurotus eryngii
Abstract The structural characterization and bioactivities of a polysaccharide from the stalk residue of Pleurotus eryngii were investigated. Firstly the stalk residue of P. eryngii was collected from the top portion of spent mushroom substrate and processed to yield water-soluble polysaccharide. Subsequently this crude polysaccharide was purified by DEAE Se

2. ALKALINE PROTEASE PRODUCTION BY Bacillus licheniformis LBA 46 IN A BENCH REACTOR: EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND AGITATION
Abstract The production of protease from Bacillus licheniformis LBA 46 was studied in a 6 L reactor using the experimental design tool. The higher protease production was obtained in the exponential phase of growth reaching maximum activity (~3,000 U/mL) after 48 h of fermentation at 30 ºC and 300 rpm in a culture medium made of agroindustrial by-products.

3. Characterization and bioactivities of a novel polysaccharide obtained from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis
ABSTRACT Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis is a type of red alga that contains seaweed polysaccharide agar. In this study, a novel non-agar seaweed polysaccharide fraction named GCP (short of crude polysaccharide obtained from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis) was isolated from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis. Structural analysis showed that GCP shows triple helical cha

4. Production, purification and characterization of an exo-polygalacturonase from Penicillium janthinellum sw09

5. Molecular characterization of a Xylanase-producing fungus isolated from fouled soil
Xylanase (EC 3. 2. 1. 8), hydrolyzes xylo-oligosaccharides into D-xylose and required for complete hydrolysis of native cellulose and biomass conversion. It has broad range of applications in the pulp and paper, pharmaceutical and Agri-food industries. Fifty fungal species were isolated from the fouled soil around an oil refinery and screened for the product

6. Aflatoxin detoxification by manganese peroxidase purified from Pleurotus ostreatus
Manganese peroxidase (MnP) was produced from white rot edible mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus on the culture filtrate. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity using (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, DEAE-Sepharose and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. The final enzyme activity achieved 81UmL-1, specific activity 78 U mg-1 with purification fold of 130 and recovery 1.

7. Isolation and purification of bromelain from waste peel of pineapple for therapeutic application
The aim of this work was to isolate and purify bromelain extracted from the pineapple peel by ammonium sulfate precipitation (40-80%), followed by desalting and freeze-drying with a 75% activity recovery and 2.2 fold increased specific activity. Ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose was able to separate the polysaccharides from the enzyme, which was

8. In vivo evaluation of homeostatic effects of Echis carinatus snake venom in Iran
Background The venom of the family Viperidae, including the saw-scaled viper, is rich in serine proteinases and metalloproteinases, which affect the nervous system, complementary system, blood coagulation, platelet aggregation and blood pressure. One of the most prominent effects of the snake venom of Echis carinatus (Ec) is its coagulation activity, used f

12. Purification and characterization of cytosolic and cell wall β-galactosidases from Vigna unguiculata stems
Three β-galactosidase isoforms, β-gal I and β-gal II (cytosolic) and β-gal III (cell wall-associated), were isolated from stems of Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. cv. Pitiúba seedlings. Purification consisted of aμMonia sulfate fractionation followed by chromatography in DEAE-Sephadex and Lactosyl-Sepharose columns. The two cytosolic isoforms showed the s
