1. VOLATILE COMPOUNDS IN CACHAÇAS OBTAINED FROM THREE SUGARCANE VARIETIES CULTIVATED UNDER THE MANAGEMENTS: ORGANIC, CONVENTIONAL AND WITHOUT FERTILIZATION
The volatile compounds present in cachaça can derive from the raw material used in the production of the beverage, from the fermentative process, from distillation or aging. The aim of the research was to evaluate the volatile compounds, in the cachaças from stills produced with different sugarcane varieties, under the organic and conventional managements.

2. Antibacterial Effects of Cuminum cyminum Extract Against Enterococcus Faecalis Biofilms From Clinical Isolates
Abstract Objective: To compare the antibacterial efficacy of Cuminum cyminum (cumin) extract and 2% chlorhexidine. Material and Methods: E. faecalis was isolated from non-vital teeth with chronic apical abscess. Samples were then bred in the ChromAgar medium. Subsequently, E. faecalis bacteria’s DNA extraction was performed. DNA was then amplified by con

3. ENERGY AND EXERGETIC EVALUATION OF THE MULTICOMPONENT SEPARATION OF PETROCHEMICAL NAPHTHA IN FALLING FILM DISTILLATION COLUMNS
Abstract Multicomponent separation of synthetic petrochemical naphtha (hexane, cyclohexane, toluene and xylene) was carried out in a falling film distillation sequence with heat supply using a vapor chamber (thermosyphon). Tests were carried out by varying feed flow rate and temperatures of the feed and the vapor chamber in two ways of heat supply: isotherma

4. MODELING AND SIMULATION OF A VACUUM MEMBRANE DISTILLATION PLANT COUPLED WITH SOLAR ENERGY AND USING HELICAL HOLLOW FIBERS
Abstract This paper investigates the effect of operating conditions such as coil pitch, fiber diameter, distance between fiber and absorber internal wall and absorber diameter for a vacuum membrane installation coupled with solar energy and using helically coiled fiber to maximize the permeate flow rate. The model is based on a system of equations composed o

5. INTEGRATING REAL TIME OPTIMIZATION AND MODEL PREDICTIVE CONTROL OF A CRUDE DISTILLATION UNIT
Abstract This work reports the integration of Real Time Optimization and Model Predictive Control in the multi-layer control structure of an existing Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) of an oil refinery. The MPC considers output control zones and targets for the inputs or outputs. Both the infinite horizon and the finite output horizon controllers were tested. T

6. Antileishmanial in vitro activity of essential oil from Myrciaria plinioides, a native species from Southern Brazil
In South American folk medicine members of the genus Myrciaria are used for the treatment of malaria, diarrhoea, asthma, inflammation and post-partum uterine cleansing. The aim of this work was to evaluate its antileishmanial properties (in vitro) of essential oil derived from leaves of Myrciaria plinioides D. Legrand, a plant species that is native in South

7. Cachaça Production in Brazil and its Main Contaminant (Ethyl Carbamate)
ABSTRACT This review aims to demonstrate the possible formation of Ethyl carbamate (EC) in different production stages of cachaça. EC is a carcinogen confirmed in animal experiments and possibly carcinogenic to humans. EC incidence below relevant health limits naturally affects many fermented foods and beverages. Concentrations above 1 mg L–1 are often de

8. Recuperação de acetona em resíduos laboratoriais: uma abordagem sobre aspectos da gestão, operacionais e da eficiência ambiental
The objective of this work was to exclusively improve the management of wastes constituted mainly by organic solvents, due to the opportunities for improvements in the processing of such substances in the institution where the studies were realized. By means of the tests carried out in the distillation system using acetone as a reference, advantages and disa

9. Identification of aroma-active volatile compounds in Pouteria sapota fruit by aroma extraction dilution analyses (AEDA)
Pouteria sapota is a tropical fruit that is commonly found in central and north part of South America where is widely consumed by its biofunctional properties. The aroma active volatile compounds of Pouteria sapota fruit were studied by using the molecular sensory approach, which includes a SAFE (Solvent Assisted Flavor Evaporation) distillation to get a vol

11. DEVELOPMENT OF A START-UP OPERATION AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF A THERMALLY COUPLED EXTRACTIVE DISTILLATION SCHEME
ABSTRACT The startup operation of distillation columns is one of the most complex steps performed in the industry. This complexity becomes even greater for thermally coupled extractive distillation systems. Thermally coupled configurations are commonly used in order to minimize the excessive amount of energy required to perform distillation. In view of this,

12. COMPARISON BETWEEN EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATED RESULTS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION BY REACTIVE DISTILLATION AND ENERGETIC ASSESSMENT
ABSTRACT Biodiesel appears to be a likely substitute to conventional diesel. However, the main challenge has been the creation of a competitive advantage for the biodiesel production process in terms of innovation and efficiency. The reactive distillation technique for biodiesel production is possibly a key force to overcome this technological issue because
