1. Impact of retrograde flexible ureteroscopy and intracorporeal lithotripsy on kidney functional outcomes
ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate renal function and to identify factors associated with renal function deterioration after retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for kidney stones. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with renal stones treated by RIRS between January 2010 and June 2013 at a single institute. We

2. AnÃlise do Aproveitamento EnergÃtico do BiogÃs do Aterro SanitÃrio Metropolitano Oeste em Caucaia sob a Perspectiva do Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento Limpo / Analysis of the energetic utilization of the biogas from the Caucaia West Metropolitan Sanitary Landfill under the perspective of the Clean Development Mechanism
The great generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Brazil has become a convergent focus of concern of Government and society by the evidence that itâs not given appropriate treatment or final disposal to the large part of this amount of garbage. Disposed in landfills, controlled and sanitary landfills, MSW, after the action of degradation mechanisms, em

3. As distribuições Kumaraswamy-log-logística e Kumaraswamy-logística / Distributions Kumaraswamy-log-logistic and Kumaraswamy-logistic
In this work, are presented two new probability distributions, obtained from two generalization methods of the log-logistic distribution, with two parameters (LL (?, ?)). The first method described in Marshall e Olkin (1997) turns the new distribution, now with three parameters, called modified log-logistic distribution (LLM(v, ?, ?)). This distribution is m

5. O mercado de câmbio e a taxa de câmbio na economia brasileira: 1999 a 2007 / The market exchange and the exchange rate in Brazilian economy: 1999 the 2007
The process of commercial opening and flexible of capital account, started in the 1990s, ally to the adoption of a regimen of floating change, since of January of 1999 and transformed the tax of change in one of the main Brazilian economic variables. Faced with that, this work analyzed the impacts of variations in the tax of change on the other economic vari

6. Dynamics of the muscle thin filament regulatory switch: the size of the cooperative unit.
Actin thin filaments containing bound tropomyosin (Tm) or tropomyosin troponin (Tm.Tn) exist in two states ("off" and "on") with different affinities for myosin heads (S1), which results in the cooperative binding of S1. The rate of S1 binding to, and dissociating from, actin, Tm.actin, and Tm.Tn.actin, monitored by light scattering (LS), was compared with t

7. Functional dynamics in the active site of the ribonuclease binase
Binase, a member of a family of microbial guanyl-specific ribonucleases, catalyzes the endonucleotic cleavage of single-stranded RNA. It shares 82% amino acid identity with the well-studied protein barnase. We used NMR spectroscopy to study the millisecond dynamics of this small enzyme, using several methods including the measurement of residual dipolar coup

8. Social status regulates growth rate: Consequences for life-history strategies
The life-history strategies of organisms are sculpted over evolutionary time by the relative prospects of present and future reproductive success. As a consequence, animals of many species show flexible behavioral responses to environmental and social change. Here we show that disruption of the habitat of a colony of African cichlid fish, Haplochromis burton

9. Septic and technical complications of central venous catheterization. A prospective study of 200 consecutive patients.
The results of central venous catheterization for total parenteral nutrition were prospectively evaluated in 200 consecutive patients. All catheters were fabricated of polyurethane tubing inserted by the Seldinger technique. Two hundred sixty-three lines were inserted in 200 patients for a total of 4103 days. Major complications occurred in 2.3% patients. Tw

10. Discharges of pyramidal tract and other motor cortical neurones during locomotion in the cat.
A method is described for chronically implanting fine flexible microwires into cat motor cortex, which permitted extracellular recordings to be made from 165 single neurones. Most units were recordable for 12 h and some for up to 2 days. Of the neurones tested, 57% were shown to project to the medullary pyramid (pyramidal tract neurones, p.t.n.s). Antidromic

11. SfiI endonuclease activity is strongly influenced by the non-specific sequence in the middle of its recognition site
The SfiI endonuclease cleaves DNA at the sequence GGCCNNNN↓NGGCC, where N is any base and ↓ is the point of cleavage. Proteins that recognise discontinuous sequences in DNA can be affected by the unspecified sequence between the specified base pairs of the target site. To examine whether this applies to SfiI, a series of DNA duplexes were made with i

12. Chlorophyll Fluorescence Analysis of Cyanobacterial Photosynthesis and Acclimation
Cyanobacteria are ecologically important photosynthetic prokaryotes that also serve as popular model organisms for studies of photosynthesis and gene regulation. Both molecular and ecological studies of cyanobacteria benefit from real-time information on photosynthesis and acclimation. Monitoring in vivo chlorophyll fluorescence can provide noninvasive measu
