1. Influence of antihypertensive drugs on aortic and coronary effects of Ang-(1-7) in pressure-overloaded rats
This study investigated the influence of antihypertensive drugs, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), AT1 receptor blockers (ARBs), voltage-gated L-type calcium channel blockers, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs), on the effects of angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] on aorta and coronary arteries from pressure-overloaded rats.

2. Ramos colaterais do arco aórtico e suas principais ramificações em nutria (Myocastor coypus) = Collaterals brances of the aortic arch and its main rami in nutria (Myocastor coypus) / Collaterals brances of the aortic arch and its main rami in nutria (Myocastor coypus)
Background: Nutria (Myocastor coypus), also known as Swamp Beaver, is a medium-sized semiaquatic rodent that belongs to the Capromyidae family. Originally from the southernmost part of South America, the species is distributed in several parts worldwide such as Europe and United States, where it has been used for commercial purposes due to the excellent qual

3. Atherogenic effects of chronic stress on thoracic aorta rats / Efeitos aterogenicos do estresse cronico em aorta toracica de ratos
Metabolic and vascular complications can result in atherosclerosis, which constitutes a great problem of public health, associated to approximately half of the deaths related to the cardiovascular illnesses in the occidental world. Therefore to the establishment of guidelines for treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to study r

5. The effects of chronic AC magnetic field on contraction and relaxation of isolated thoracic aorta rings of healthy and diabetic rats
The aim of in this study was to determine the effect of chronic alternating current (AC) magnetic field on the contraction and relaxation parameters of isolated thoracic aorta rings in healthy and diabetic rats. Sixty rats (Wistar albino spp) weighing between 250-300 g were used. The rats were divided into four groups: 1-Control (C), 2- control + magnetic fi

6. Cardiac and vascular effects of diltiazem, dobutamine and amrinone, drugs used after myocardial revascularization
Hemodynamic care during postoperative management of myocardial revascularization should include vasorelaxing drugs to insure adequate graft and coronary flow, and stimulation of stroke volume to maintain vascular perfusion pressure. We tested the cardiac (inotropic and lusitropic) and vascular (relaxant) effects of diltiazem (0.1 nM to 0.1 mM), dobutamine (1

7. Neuroleptic drugs attenuate calcium influx and tension development in rabbit thoracic aorta: effects of pimozide, penfluridol, chlorpromazine, and haloperidol.
This study was designed to determine whether neuroleptic drugs have calcium channel blocking activity in isolated rings of rabbit thoracic aorta. The results confirm previous findings that pimozide and penfluridol are calcium channel blockers. However, the data do not support the conclusion that these agents are selective for the voltage-sensitive calcium ch

8. Effects of aortic pressure and vasoactive agents on the vascular resistance of the vasa vasorum in canine isolated thoracic aorta.
1. We have developed a new preparation for continuously measuring changes in vascular resistance of the vasa vasorum of the canine isolated thoracic aorta perfused at a constant flow rate with Krebs-bicarbonate solution. 2. An increase of more than 150 mmHg in aortic pressure caused a significant increase in the vascular resistance of the vasa vasorum. 3. 5-

9. Endarterectomy and External Prosthetic Grafting of the Ascending and Transverse Aorta under Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest
A 78-year-old woman presented with acute pulmonary edema, a blood pressure of 250/160 mmHg, and a 4/6 diastolic murmur of probable aortic origin. Aortography revealed 4+ aortic regurgitation, left ventricular dysfunction, a right coronary artery with good distal run-off but complete proximal occlusion, a fusiform aneurysm of the ascending and transverse aort

10. l-citrulline and l-arginine supplementation retards the progression of high-cholesterol-diet-induced atherosclerosis in rabbits
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of ingested l-arginine, l-citrulline, and antioxidants (vitamins C and E) on the progression of atherosclerosis in rabbits fed a high-cholesterol diet. The fatty diet caused a marked impairment of endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation in isolated thoracic aorta and blood flow in rabbit ear artery in vi

11. Effects of Elevated Glucose Concentrations on the Metabolism of the Aortic Wall
The effects of elevated glucose concentrations on the metabolism of the aortic wall were examined in a preparation of tubular segments of rabbit descending thoracic aorta comprised of intima and media only. Increased medium glucose concentrations (20-50 mm) resulted in increased aortic sorbitol and fructose concentrations and an increased rate of fructose re

12. Interrupted Aortic Arch in an Adult: Single-Stage Extra-Anatomic Repair
Interrupted aortic arch is a rare congenital malformation of the aortic arch that occurs in 3 per million live births. Defined as a loss of luminal continuity between the ascending and descending portions of the aorta, this anomaly entails a very poor prognosis without surgical treatment. To our knowledge, the world medical literature contains only 12 report
