1. Study of excitations in a Bose-Einstein condensate / Estudo de excitações em condenados de Bose-Einstein
In this work we study a Bose-Einstein condensate of 87Rb under the effects of an oscillatory excitation. The condensate is produced through forced evaporative cooling by radio-frequency in a harmonic magnetic trap. The excitation is generated by an oscillatory quadrupole field superimposed on the trapping potential. For a fixed value of the frequency of the

2. Construção de uma armadilha magneto-ótica para aplicações em informação quântica e física atômica / Construction of a Magnet-Optical Trap for Aplications at Quantum Information and Atomic Physics
We built a magneto-optical trap (MOT) for rubidium as a first step for the trapping of a cloud of cold atoms in a periodic potential formed by light beams. This system will be used for experiments in atom physics, with possible applications in quantum information. A MOT is necessary to avoid the problems imposed by the thermal agitation of the atoms to the m

3. Construção de uma armadilha de dipolo com laser de CO2. / Constrution of a dipole trap using a CO2 laser
In this work we present the construction of an optical dipole trap using a CO2 laser, which involves the use of news and modern technologies never utilized by our group up to now. We have builded a new trap chamber with large optical access, used atomic dispensers as an atomic source and a high power CO2 laser and its optical components. We have demonstrated

4. Seasonal cusp radiation belt on dayside magnetosphere
The possibility of quasi-stable trapping of charged particles of hundreds keV to MeV energy on the frontside Earth magnetosphere is explored in by numerical modeling of the single particle orbits in the geomagnetic field utilizing empirical Tsyganenko magnetic field model. Due to solar wind pressure the remote magnetic field lines on the frontside of the mag

5. Calcium magneto-optical trap loaded from a decelerated atomic beam
We describe a new system for laser cooling and trapping of neutral Calcium atoms employing the ¹S0 -¹ P1 resonant transition at 423 nm. An on-axis magneto-optical trap (MOT) is loaded from a Zeeman decelerated atomic beam. When a single laser is used, in order to avoid perturbation of the trap by the deceleration laser beam, this one has been tightly focus

6. Exciton trapping in a periodically modulated magnetic field
The behavior of excitons in spatially modulated magnetic fields is described taking into account theb exciton spin contribution. The results show that the exciton trapping in periodic magnetic fields is possible and dependent on the modulation profile.

7. Experimental development to produce and study quantum gases: Bose-Einstein condensation / Desenvolvimento experimental para produção e estudo de gases quânticos: condensação de Bose-Einstein
We present here all the experimental development obtained in São Carlos to produce and study quantum degenerate gases, aiming specially the realization of Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) in sodium (Na-23) atoms. In order to do that we designed, built and completely integrated a complex experimental setup which conjugates most of the techniques developed al

8. Desenvolvimento de fontes laser, espectroscopia de alta resolução e resfriamento e aprisionamento magneto-optico de atomos de calcio
In this work, we report on an experimental system for laser cooling and magneto-optical trapping of calcium atoms, the development of the laser sources for this system, and a spectroscopic analysis of calcium transitions in hollow cathode electric discharges. In the case of calcium, the most efficient optical transition for the atom motion manipulation by ra

9. Estudo da relaxação magnetica e fluxo retido em Niobio supercondutor : efeitos da superficie
We present in this work a study of the surface influence in magnetic relaxation of superconducting niobium. We also discuss the relevance of the sample surface condition on magnetic flux trapping associated with the occurrence of a paramagnetic frozen state. Magnetization measurements were made, using a SQUID magnetometer, on a single-crystal Nb bar, for dif

10. Orbitas periodicas e suas bifurcações em bilhares magneticos
In this work we have made a detailed study on the search for periodic orbits on two types of Billiards with a ortoghonal magnetic field applied: the Square Billiard and Sinai s Billiard. We have implemented an efficient method of searching directly on Birkhoff s Section Map, which is based on a process of successive iterations, starting from a "test-orbit" a

11. Caracterização de uma armadilha magneto-optica para átomos de sódio em célula de vapor. / Characterization of a magneto-optical trap for sodium atoms in vapor cell.
Among the various atomic motion control techniques using radiation pressure magneto-optic trapping has been looked at with great enthusiasm because it produces samples of cold atoms (temperatures about μK), with high densities and confined in small regions of space. Due to these motivations the efforts for developing and characterizing these atoms traps

12. Tumor trapping of 5-fluorouracil: in vivo 19F NMR spectroscopic pharmacokinetics in tumor-bearing humans and rabbits.
The pharmacokinetics of 5-fluorouracil (5FU) were studied in vivo in patients with discrete tumors and in rabbits bearing VX2 tumors by using 19F NMR spectroscopy. The human studies were conducted in a 1.5-T Magnetom magnetic resonance imager (Siemens), and the rabbit studies were conducted in a 4.7-T GE/Nicolet 33-cm bore magnet. Free 5FU was detected in th
