1. Mercury Exposure in a Riverside Amazon Population, Brazil: A Study of the Ototoxicity of Methylmercury
Introduction Mercury poisoning causes hearing loss in humans and animals. Acute and long-term exposures produce irreversible peripheral and central auditory system damage, and mercury in its various forms of presentation in the environment is ototoxic.
Objective We investigated the otoacoustic emissions

2. Assessment of mercury emissions from brazilian coal combustion in fast fluidized bed / Estudo das emissões de mercurio na combustão de carvão mineral brasileiro em leito fluidizado rapido
In this work, total mercury emissions from fast fluidized bed combustion of CE-4500 Brazilian coal and dolomite mixtures were quantified. Stack gas samples were collected downstream of a baghouse by using an isokinetic probe and U.S. E.P.A. n. 29 / ASTM-D-6784 (Ontario-Hydro) method procedures. The ash samples trapped in the particulate control device and th

3. Biodisponibilidade de mercurio e outros metais-traço em sedimentos do Rio Cubatão, Sistema Estuarino de Santos-Cubatão (SP) / Bioavailability of mercury and other trace-metals in sediments of Cubatão River, Santos-Cubatão Estuarine System (SP)
Coastal-estuarine ecosystems from the south of São Paulo State are presently degraded specially in Cubatão municipality, in consequence of population concentration and, industrial and petrochemical complexes. These environmental impacts have begun in the 1950s after the construction of the largest Latin America petrochemical complex in the Cubatão city.

4. Caracterização e análise macro e microestrutural de concretos fabricados com cimentos contendo escórias de alto-forno
The worldwide concern with the sustainable development has placed restrictions on the use of raw materials and on gas emissions in the atmosphere. In this scenario, the Brazilian cement industry has made significant changes in Portland cement compositions. These changes include the increasing proportions of mineral additions such as blast-furnace slag. These

5. ASPECTOS DA BIOGEOQUIMICA DO MERCÚRIO EM LAGOS NA PLANICIE COSTEIRA DO SUL DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL
Mercury is one of the most hazardous contaminant in aquatic environment. Mercury contamination in aquatic environment food webs can be severe and persistent, and fish are a major source of mercury contamination in humans across food web. In this study: - Was measured mercury levels at three lakes in southern Brazil and assessed relationships between mercury

6. Fluxos de mercurio gasoso na interface solo/atmosfera na Bacia do Rio Negro utilizando camaras dinamicas de fluxo / Hg fluxes en the soil/air interface in the Negro River Basin (Amazon) by using dynamic flux chamber
The aim of this thesis was to quantify the soil/air exchange of mercury in the Negro River Basin by using a Dynamic Flux Chamber. The methodological study showed that the flux chamber was efficient to compare the Hg fluxes in the different sites. However, the humidity inside the chamber and the low flushing flow rate could have subestimated the Hg fluxes. Hg

7. Quantificação de fluxos de mercúrio gasoso na interface solo/atmosfera utilizando câmara de fluxo dinâmica: aplicação na bacia do Rio Negro
Gaseous mercury sampling conditions were optimized and a dynamic flux chamber was used to measure the air/surface exchange of mercury in some areas of the Negro river basin with different vegetal coverings. At the two forest sites (flooding and non-flooding), low mercury fluxes were observed: maximum of 3 pmol m-2 h-1 - day and minimum of -1 pmol m-2 h-1 - n

8. Changes in lead and mercury atmospheric deposition due to industrial emissions in Southeastern Brazil
9. PREDIÇÃO DA CONCENTRAÇÃO DE MERCÚRIO EM TUCUNARÉ USANDO MODELOS DE BALANÇO DE MASSA E BIOENERGÉTICO / PREDICTING MERCURY CONCENTRATION IN TUCUNARÉ USING MASS BALANCE AND BIOENERGETICS
The mercury used in the artisanal mining (garimpo) of gold in the Amazon region is emitted to the atmosphere, soil and rivers. Once in the atmosphere, the metal is oxidized and immediately deposited. In the water, the transformation to methylmercury takes place mostly due to the action of microorganisms. The formation of methylmercury increases the dispersio
