1. Green Processing of Strategic Elements Based on Magnetic Nanohydrometallurgy
Magnetic nanohydrometallurgy (NHM) is a new process based on engineered superparamagnetic nanoparticles capable of performing as complexing agents for extracting and recovering strategic metals from mineral sources and urban wastes, as well as for removing hazardous elements from contaminated water. Its principles and application are reviewed in this paper.

2. Particleboard manufactured from Tauari (Couratari oblongifolia) wood waste using castor oil based polyurethane resin
Several wood species from the Amazon region are used in the manufacture of furniture, which leaves behind large amounts of waste (slabs, sawdust, sanding dust and bark), thus causing serious environmental impacts. An interesting alternative for the use of these wastes is the manufacture of particleboards. However, few studies have focused on the behavior of

3. Processamento de pilhas do tipo botão
This work presents hydrometallurgical routes for recovering valuable elements from spent button cells, based on leaching of internal components with sulfuric acid (Li/MnO2 and Zn-air) or nitric acid (Ag-Zn), at 90 ºC for 2h. Slow evaporation of the leachate crystallized MnSO4.H2O, whereas lithium was partially recovered as LiF. Mercury present in Zn-air and

4. CONCRETE MICROESTRUTURE STUDY WITH ADDITION OF UNGROUND RESIDUAL RICE HUSK ASH WITHOUT BURN CONTROL / ESTUDO DA MICROESTRUTURA DO CONCRETO COM ADIÇÃO DE CINZA DE CASCA DE ARROZ RESIDUAL SEM BENEFICIAMENTO
The use of mineral adition in concrete is a widely studied theme for several researchers that looking for features like: save cement for reducing costs, durability improvement to increase mechanical strenght and use of industrial wastes for reducing environmental pollution. This study intend to analize the microstructure of concretes mixtures with ungrounded

5. Otimização e aplicação de câmaras para medição de fluxos de mercúrio gasoso dissolvido na interface água/atmosfera em lagos da bacia do Rio Negro - AM / Development, validation and application of chambers for mercury fluxes determinations in the water/atmosphere interface over lakes in the Negro River Basin - Amazon region - Brazil
The scope of this work was the construction and optimization of fluxes chambers for the determination of dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) in the water atmosphere interface, in lakes belonging to the Negro River basin - AM. Field work was carried out using a plexiglass flux chambers for the determination of inner and outer atmospheric gaseous mercury. The air

6. Avaliação de indicadores biológicos de exposição para As, Be, Cd, Hg, Ni, e Pb em trabalhadores de incineradores de resíduos de serviços de saúde / Evaluation of biological indicators of expousure for As, Be, Cd, Hg, Ni and Pb in workers of medical wastes incineration
The biological occupational exposure indices of workers in medical waste incineration plants is evaluated. Arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, mercury and nickel (urine samples) and lead (blood samples) are studied. The measured indices are compared with (a) the limits imposed by Brazilian law, (b) limits established by American Conference of Industrial Governmenta

7. SEPARAÇÃO E PRÉ-CONCENTRAÇÃO ON-LINE PARA ESPECIAÇÃO DE Hg EM CHORUME POR FI-CVG AAS
In Brazil, the urban solid wastes are usually discharged on landfill sites that are percolated by rainwater. This water leaches the wastes producing an effluent that is characterized by high concentration of organic matter, salts, suspended particulates and heavy metals. Mercury is one of the metals that is frequently present in different chemical forms whic

8. Removal of Nickel and Zinc Using Natural Zeolite Estilbita Through the Process of Ionic Exchange / RemoÃÃo de NÃquel e Zinco Utilizando ZeÃlita Natural Estilbita AtravÃs do Processo de Troca IÃnica
One of the most serious problems of the modern age in environmental pollution; water contamination by industrial wastes is of great international concern. Frequently contaminants are heavy metals with a concentration in excess of that established by Legislation. The health problems are associated with heavy metal pollutants such as mercury, lead, zinc, nicke

9. Heavy-Metal and Antibiotic Resistance in the Bacterial Flora of Sediments of New York Bight
The New York Bight extends seaward some 80 to 100 miles (ca. 129 to 161 km) from the Long Island and New Jersey shorelines to the edge of the continental shelf. Over 14 × 106 m3 of sewage sludge, dredge spoils, acid wastes, and cellar dirt are discharged into this area each year. Large populations of Bacillus sp. resistant to 20 μg of mercury per ml were o

10. Toxic heavy metals: materials cycle optimization.
Long-term ecological sustainability is incompatible with an open materials cycle. The toxic heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, silver, uranium/plutonium, zinc) exemplify the problem. These metals are being mobilized and dispersed into the environment by industrial activity at a rate far higher than by natural processes. Apart fr
