1. Organophilic clays and their application in atrazine adsorption
Abstract Atrazine’s adsorptive capabilities make the use of clays practical and effective. Three types of organophilic clays modified by cationic surfactants with the ability of one of these clays to adsorb atrazine in an aqueous medium are discussed in this work. The modification in clays was done with the surfactants cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, cetyl

2. Fabrication and characterization of low cost ceramic membranes for microfiltration of Acutodesmus obliquus using modified clays

3. Assessment of sulfamethoxazole adsorption capacity on Pirangi clay from the State of Sergipe, Brazil, modified by heating and addition of organic cation

4. Bionanocomposites of PLA/PBAT/organophilic clay: preparation and characterization
Abstract The objective of this study was to develop bionanocomposites from blends of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and from 3% and 6% bentonite clay. Initially, the bentonite clay was treated with Praepagen salt, and the properties of the modified clay were evaluated. After the organophilization of the clay was co

6. Polyethersulfone Hollow Fiber Membranes Developed for Oily Emulsion Treatment
Polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membranes were produced, containing 3% of two types of clay (Brasgel PA - MMT and Cloisite NA - CLNa), in order to modify the characteristics of the polyethersulfone membrane. By means of the X-ray diffraction, it was possible to observe an exfoliated and/or partially exfoliated structure in the membranes containing clay.

7. Effect of Curing Temperature, Activator Solution Composition and Particle Size in Brazilian Fly-Ash Based Geopolymer Production
The geopolymer binder is a relatively new class of inorganic binding material of elevated mechanical strength and good chemical properties. This can be produced using clay minerals or byproducts of the industrial processes, such as metakaolin, fly-ash and blast furnace slag. In this work, geopolymers were produced by alkaline activation of a Brazilian fly-as

8. PRODUCTION OF FATTY ACID METHYL ESTERS FROM AN OLIVE OIL INDUSTRY WASTE
ABSTRACT This work studies the synthesis of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) using crude olive pomace oil as raw material and zinc stearate as catalyst. Pomace oil is a non-edible by-product of olive oil production. The oil was characterized. In order to reduce the plant pigment content in the oil, the liquid was contacted with a modified clay. An experimenta

11. Phosphate Adsorption by Montmorillonites Modified with Lanthanum/Iron and a Laboratory Test using Water from the Jacarepaguá Lagoon (RJ, Brazil)
Montmorillonites modified with lanthanum(III) and iron(III) were prepared from two commercial clays. These materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy, N2 adsorption, and scanning electron microscopy. The incorporation of lanthanum(III) and iron(III) varied from 0 to 4.00%. The amount of these

12. Performance evaluation of different soil water retention functions for modeling of water flow under transient condition
ABSTRACT ABSTRACT: Description and prediction of water flow through unsaturated soils is necessary to understand their hydraulic properties, including soil water retention curve (SWRC). Many models have been developed for estimation of SWRC and many researchers compared water retention curve derived from these models with the measured values. In this paper,
