1. Evaluation of OSEB and SEBAL models for energy balance of a crop area in a humid subtropical climate
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the adequacy of the One-Source Energy Balance (OSEB) and Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) models to estimate evapotranspiration in grain growing areas with humid subtropical climate in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The dataset was obtained from a micrometeorological station (Eddy Covariance) and MODIS (Mod

2. Modelling evapotranspiration for reference crop and acid lime orchard based on regression and artificial neural network tecniques / Modelagem da evapotranspiração de referência e da evapotranspiração de limeira ácida com aplicação de técnicas de regressão e redes neurais artificiais
The main objective of this study was to test artificial neural networks (ANNs) of multilayer perceptron type (MLP) for estimating reference evapotranspiration, diffusive leaf conductance and crop evapotranspiration of a mature and irrigated citrus orchard. The ANNs were trained under conjugate gradient algorithm. The sigmoid and linear activation functions w

3. Water and energy fluxes in cowpea and castor beans cultivated in northeast Brazil / Fluxos de Ãgua e de energia em feijÃo macassar e mamona no nordeste do Brasil
The castor beans and cowpea are crops of enormous economic and social importance for the farmers in northeast Brazil, whereas the extracted oil of seeds of castor beans is used for production of biodiesel and the cowpea is the main food for poor population. Independent of crop type, the knowledge of water amount removed from soil by vegetation is of great in

4. Balanço de radiação, energia e fluxo de CO2 em ecossistema de manguezal na Amazônia / Radiation and energy balance and fluxes of CO2 in a Amazon mangrove ecosystem
This work use the longest series of continuous meteorological data and fluxes measurements of CO2, sensible heat and latent heat made in Amazon mangrove ecosystem. The series used in this study corresponds to the period of November, 2002 to August, 2003. The meteorological data were collected using an EDISOL system based on the hedí covariance technique. Th

5. Sistema especialista de apoio à elaboração de arranjo físico para sistema intensivo de produção de leite em confinamento tipo baias livres / Expert system to the elaboration of physical facilities for intensive milk production system in free stall type confinement
The search for technological alternatives that could optimize the productive processes, increase the quality, make flexible and reduce the production costs of the milk has promoted the directing of the agricultural researches toward the computer science field, which is another way to generating efficient scientific answers therefore partly reducing the subje

6. Validation of heat fluxes over the tropical atlantic: CPTEC coupled ocean-atmosphere model and observations / Validação dos fluxos de calor sobre o atlântico tropical: modelo acoplado oceano-atmosfera do CPTEC e observações
The goal of this work is to infer the importance of surface heat fluxes, estimated by several methods, in the determination of the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) fields in the tropical Atlantic using a set of general circulation ocean model Modular Ocean Model 3 (MOM 3) simulations and a Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos (CPTEC) coupled ocean

7. Integration of a water quantity mathematical net-flux model (ACQUANET) with a water quality mathematical reservoir model (CE-QUAL-R1) - Case Study: Jaguari-Jacarei Reservoir Cantareira System.
A methodology was developed for the integration of two mathematical models, one of water quantity in network named ACQUANET with other of water quality, in one dimension, applied in revervoirs, named CE-QUAL-R1. In order to achieve this goal, an INTERFACE was developed to link the CE-QUAL-R1 with ACQUANET outflow results. It should be highlighted that ACQUAN

8. Estudo do balanço de radiação em área de policultivo na amazônia / Study of radiation balance over Amazonian policulture area
Micrometeorological observations have been used to study the radiation balance over recultivation areas of the SHIFT Project in the Central Amazon, during the dry season. The site was first cleared of primary forest to make way for an experimental rubber plantation which was abandoned soon after. Later, the secondary forest which had evolved was cleared and

9. Cargas atomicas (um novo modelo) : implementação computacional e aplicações
In the present work a computational implementation and a subsequent application of a new atomic charge model are made. This new model was derived after 1990, when a new partition of the atomic polar tensor (APT) was done, in terms of charge, charge flux, atomic dipole flux and homopolar dipole flux. An APT of an atom in a molecule, represented by a 3x3 matri

10. A Method for Characterizing the Relation between Nutrient Concentration and Flux into Roots of Intact Plants 1
A method based on the rate of depletion of a nutrient from solution was developed to characterize nutrient flux of plant roots. Nutrient concentration of the solution was measured at a series of time intervals to describe the complete depletion curve. An integrated rate equation, based on a Michaelis-Menten model, was developed and fit to the data of the dep

11. Equilibration of the terrestrial water, nitrogen, and carbon cycles
Recent advances in biologically based ecosystem models of the coupled terrestrial, hydrological, carbon, and nutrient cycles have provided new perspectives on the terrestrial biosphere’s behavior globally, over a range of time scales. We used the terrestrial ecosystem model Century to examine relationships between carbon, nitrogen, and water dynamics.

12. Investigation of the CO2 Dependence of Quantum Yield and Respiration in Eucalyptus pauciflora
In leaves of C3 plants, the rate of nonphotorespiratory respiration appears to be higher in darkness than in the light. This change from a high to a low rate of carbon loss with increasing photon flux density leads to an increase in the apparent quantum yield of photosynthetic CO2 assimilation at low photon flux densities (Kok effect). The mechanism of this
