1. FE Modeling and Seismic Performance Evaluation of Hybrid SMA-Steel RC Beam-Column Joints
Abstract Severe permanent deformations of buildings during earthquakes have been found as one of the major causes of the instability and failure of structures. The application of superelastic Shape Memory Alloy rebars at the plastic hinge region of reinforced concrete beam-column joints (SESMA-BCJs) can eliminate the seismic residual deformations. Such self-

2. Parametric resonance in concrete beam-columns
A dynamic instability, called parametric resonance, is exhibited by undampedelastic beam-columns when under the action of pulsating axial force. The scope of the existing theory of parametric resonance is restricted to physically linear beam-columns undergoing finite lateral displacements. In this Paper, the dynamic behaviour of physically nonlinear elastic

3. An analysis of parametric instability of risers
In this work, three catenary riser models subjected to harmonic oscillations are studied. Two are finite-element models, one studied with Orcaflex, an offshore marine system analysis software, and another one with Abaqus, a generalist structural analysis software. The third model is an analytical reduced-order model that represents only the touch-down zone.

4. Estimação e previsão da estrutura a termo das taxas de juros usando técnicas de inteligência computacional / Term structure of interest rate modeling and forecasting using computational intelligence techniques
This work proposes the term structure of interest rates modeling and forecasting using computational intelligence techniques, based on data from the US and Brazilian fixed income markets. The yield curve modeling includes the use of some evolutionary computation methods like Genetic Algorithms, Differential Evolution and Evolution Strategies in comparison wi

5. Influence of physical and geometrical system parameters uncertainties on the nonlinear oscillations of cylindrical shells
This work investigates the influence of physical and geometrical system parameters uncertainties and excitation noise on the nonlinear vibrations and stability of simply-supported cylindrical shells. These parameters are composed of both deterministic and random terms. Donnell's non-linear shallow shell theory is used to study the non-linear vibrations of th

6. Disc brake noise analysis using instability of complex eigenvalue / Instabilidade de freios a disco por analise de autovalor complexo
To understand, model and mitigate disc brake noise is still one of the greatest challenges for the automotive industry. It is substantially important for manufacturers and suppliers to predict the disc brake noise in a design phase. Squeal is a brake noise in the 1-15 kHz frequency range, and can be defined as a self-excited friction problem, which can gener

7. Active flutter suppression in a 2-D airfoil using linear matrix inequalities techniques
Flutter is an in-flight vibration of flexible structures caused by energy in the airstream absorbed by the lifting surface. This aeroelastic phenomenon is a problem of considerable interest in the aeronautic industry, because flutter is a potentially destructive instability resulting from an interaction between aerodynamic, inertial, and elastic forces. To o

8. Ownership structure; Corporate Governance; Agency Theory / Governança corporativa : estrutura de propriedade, desempenho e valor uma análise de empresas brasileiras
The literature indicates that, mainly in countries with high stock concentration, the property structure is an important internal mechanism of control of the corporate governance, with effects in the valorization and acting of the companies. In Brazil, the existent relationship among governance property-acting corporate-structure is still shown not conclusiv

10. Vibrações ressonantes não-lineares em estruturas tipo viga sob excitação paramétrica e combinada / Nonlinear resonance vibrations in beam type structures under parametric and combined excitations
This document presents results of theoretical and experimental investigations on the non-linear vibration characteristics of an important class of flexible structures. The motivation for such a study arises mainly from the increasing need for lightweight structural members. The weight reduction associated to the use of novel materials contribute to the incre

11. Modelagem paramétrica de pórticos rolantes: estabilidade estrutural e otimização. / Gantry cranes parametric modeling: structural stability and optimization.
The objective of this work is to develop a tool to generate an automatic structural design of gantry cranes. With an automatic generation of finite element models and also a design report, this routine allows a fast verification against yield of material and structural instability. The use of the finite element method was chosen for the structural design bec

12. STATIC AND DYNAMIC INSTABILITY OF PLANE FRAMES WITH SEMI-RIGID CONNECTIONS / INSTABILIDADE ESTÁTICA E DINÂMICA DE PÓRTICOS PLANOS COM LIGAÇÕES SEMI-RÍGIDAS
The main objective of this thesis is to develop a numerical methodology for the nonlinear static and dynamics analysis of plane frames with semi-rigid connections. Initially, the formulations of the adopted finite elements are presented and implemented together with numerical methodologies for the solution of the non-linear equilibrium equations. Then, some
