A cicatrização normal das UP

3. Capacidade preditiva da subescala Nutrição da Escala de Braden para avaliar o risco de desenvolvimento de úlceras por pressão / Predictive capacity of nutrition sub scale of Braden scale to assessment pressure ulcer development risk
The nutritional variables have been considered as risk predictors for development of pressure ulcers (PU). The nutrition sub scale of Braden scale which assesses the usual food intake pattern seems to be quite fragile in predicting those wounds. Plenty of studies have pointed out broad aspects of the nutritional status related the risk to develop press

4. Funcional independence of individuals With paraplegia in a rehabilitation program: results and associated factors / Independência funcional de pessoas portadoras de paraplegia em programa de reabilitação: resultados e fatores associados
Spinal cord injury can convey constraints to individuals, but a rehabilitation program which evalueates the functional gain allows outpatient care during the rehabilitation process. The aim of the present research was to evaluate results obtained trough the administration of Functional Independence Measure (FIM scale) in paraplegic petients within rehabilita

5. Pressure sores--a multifaceted approach to prevention and treatment.
The incidence and effect of pressure sores on the disabled and elderly population have created a challenge to physicians and health care professionals, from emergency departments to rehabilitation units, and in the community. If not prevented, the morbidity and mortality of patients and the direct and indirect costs to both patients and the health care syste

6. Pharmacokinetics of amikacin in serum and in tissue contiguous with pressure sores in humans with spinal cord injury.
Pressure sores are a common occurrence in immobilized patients. They increase morbidity and mortality and impede rehabilitation. Antibiotics are routinely used to assist in effecting a cure when infection is present. Nevertheless, for patients with spinal cord injuries (SCI), strategies for effective therapy with antibiotics based on measurement of concentra

10. Nasal masks for domiciliary positive pressure ventilation: patient usage and complications.
BACKGROUND--Nasal mask discomfort is a major factor in compliance with treatment by nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) and nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). METHODS--A study of skin complications resulting from mask usage, with particular reference to predisposing factors, was carried out in 66 patients by means of a pos

11. Blood zinc in the spinal patient
A rapid microspectrophotometric method was used to measure zinc concentrations in plasma and erythrocytes. A circadian variation in plasma zinc related to the ingestion of food was observed. Fasting plasma zinc concentrations were low in 20 out of 23 paraplegic patients with pressure sores, indicating that oral zinc supplementation may be expected to acceler

12. The safety and effect of topically applied recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor on the healing of chronic pressure sores.
The first randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled human trials of recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) for pressure sore treatment were performed. Three different concentrations of bFGF in five dosing schedules were tested for safety using hematology, serum chemistries, urinalysis, absorption, antibody formation, and signs of toxicity. Efficacy
