1. Primary and Bacterial Production in Two Dimictic Indiana Lakes
The relationship between primary and bacterial production in two dimictic Indiana lakes with different primary productivities was examined during the summer stratification period in 1982. Primary production rates were calculated from rates of H14CO3− incorporation by natural samples, and bacterial production was calculated from rates of [3H-methyl]thymidin

2. Relationship of Structure and Biological Activity of Monosaccharide Lipid A Analogues to Induction of Nitric Oxide Production by Murine Macrophage RAW264.7 Cells
Lipid A is the active center of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which exhibits diverse biological activities via the production of various mediators. We investigated the production of nitric oxide (NO), one of the mediators, by a murine macrophage cell line, RAW264.7, upon stimulation with a series of monosaccharide lipid A analogues to elucidate the rel

3. Characteristics of Nitrate Reduction in a Mutant of the Blue-Green Alga Agmenellum quadruplicatum1
Characteristics of nitrate reduction in terms of nitrite production in an N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine-induced mutant of the blue-green alga Agmenellum quadruplicatum are described. Following induction of nitrate reduction a linear rate of nitrite production proportional to cell concentration was observed. Rate of nitrite production and growth rate

4. Nivelamento de capacidade de produção utilizando quadros Heijunka em sistemas híbridos de coordenação de ordens de produção / Production capacity leveling using Heijunka box in hybrid systems for coordinating production orders
Lean production is one of the most famous production management paradigms being implemented in the industries recently. Its philosophy and tools shall apply to the most diverse types of production systems. One of its major components is the search for stability in the processes and operations, requiring the application of production leveling, as a programmin

5. Primary and Bacterial Secondary Production in a Southwestern Reservoir
Rates of primary and bacterial secondary production in Lake Arlington, Texas, were determined. The lake is a warm (annual temperature range, 7 to 32°C), shallow, monomictic reservoir with limited macrophyte development in the littoral zone. Samples were collected from six depths within the photic zone from a site located over the deepest portion of the lake

6. Production of Thermostable Alkaline Proteases by Thermophilic Streptomyces
Conditions for the production of thermostable proteases (alkaline proteinase and carboxypeptidase) by a thermophilic streptomycete (Streptomyces rectus var. proteolyticus) were investigated in 20-liter volumes. Proteinase production was affected by the concentration of defatted soybean powder, its optimum being 1.2% in medium containing 2.0% soluble starch.

7. Influence of metabolic and physical factors on production of diacetoxyscirpenol by Fusarium sambucinum Fuckel.
Fusarium sambucinum Fuckel 8099-1 was grown on Czapek-Dox peptone-supplemented medium at 15 degrees C for 14 days, and the cultures were investigated for diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS) production by liquid-liquid extraction and gas chromatography. The addition of 150 mg of sorbic acid, a tricarboxylic acid cycle inhibitor, per liter stimulated both fungal growth a

8. Traversing the mountaintop: world fossil fuel production to 2050
During the past century, fossil fuels—petroleum liquids, natural gas and coal—were the dominant source of world energy production. From 1950 to 2005, fossil fuels provided 85–93% of all energy production. All fossil fuels grew substantially during this period, their combined growth exceeding the increase in world population. This growth, however, was i

9. Phenotypic study of egg production curve in commercial broiler breeders using Compartmental function
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of environmental factors on egg production curve traits in broiler breeders. The weekly egg production records of birds collected from four different flocks were used to estimate the egg production curve parameters using the Compartmental function (y = A(1 − exp−b(t − d))exp−ct). The coef

10. Effects of cultural conditions on protease production by Aeromonas hydrophila.
Production of extracellular proteolytic activity by Aeromonas hydrophila was influenced by temperature, pH, and aeration. Conditions which produced maximal growth also resulted in maximal protease production. Enzyme production appeared to be modulated by an inducer catabolite repression system whereby NH4+ and glucose repressed enzyme production and complex

11. Effect of initial pH on aflatoxin production.
The effect of initial pH on aflatoxin production by Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999 was examined in a semisynthetic medium. Maximal growth, aflatoxin production, and aflatoxin production per unit of growth occurred at initial pH levels of 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 respectively. Initial pH levels less than pH 6.0 favored production of the B toxins, whereas levels g

12. Influence of forage production area, concentrate supply, and workforce on productive results in milk production systems
ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the influence of forage production area, concentrate supply, and farm labor on characterization of milk production systems (MPS) and their productive results. Milk volume data provided in 2014 by 110 dairy farms located in the eastern region of Santa Catarina State, Brazil, were obtained from a dairy industry. Forty-f
