1. Relationship between Electrochemical Parameters, Cytotoxicity Data against Cancer Cells of 3-Thio-Substituted Nor-Beta-Lapachone Derivatives. Implications for Cancer Therapy
Electrochemical methods are powerful in the characterization and design of redox-modulating agents. We, herein, report the electrochemical investigation, in aprotic medium, of eleven synthetic 3-thio-substituted-nor-beta-lapachones, along with the determination of cytotoxic activity and correspondent selectivity index, against several cancer cell lines and o

2. Cryotherapy: biochemical alterations involved in reduction of damage induced by exhaustive exercise
When exercises are done in intense or exhaustive modes, several acute biochemical mechanisms are triggered. The use of cryotherapy as cold-water immersion is largely used to accelerate the process of muscular recovery based on its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The present study aimed to study the biochemical effects of cold-water immersion trea

3. Treatment with Ilex paraguariensis (yerba mate) aqueous solution prevents hepatic redox imbalance, elevated triglycerides, and microsteatosis in overweight adult rats that were precociously weaned
Early weaning (EW) leads to overweight, visceral obesity, hyperleptinemia, and insulin resistance in adulthood. Treatment with Ilex paraguariensis (yerba mate) improves obesity and insulin resistance in these animals. Here, we evaluated the effects of chronic treatment with yerba mate on the redox balance and liver morphology of overweight early-weaned rats.

4. Effects of perioperative hypothermia and reactive oxygen species in the healing of colonic anastomosis in rats
PURPOSE:We evaluated the hypothesis that induced perioperative hypothermia (32 ± 1ºC) affects the redox balance in the tissue of colonic anastomosis in rats by modifying biochemical enzymatic and non-enzymatic markers related to oxidative stress.METHODS:Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly divided into eight experimental groups of six animals each an

5. Metabolic networks and bioenergetics of Aurantiochytrium sp. B-072 during storage lipid formation
Baffled shake flask cultivation of Aurantiochytrium sp. B-072 was carried out at in a glucose-monosodium glutamate mineral medium at different C/N-ratios (30-165) with glucose fixed at 90 g/L. With increasing C/N-ratio, a modest increase in lipid content (60 to 73 % w/w) was observed whereas fat-free biomass decreased but overall biomass showed little variat

6. Efeito do tratamento com estradiol sobre o controle da pressão arterial e o estresse oxidativo
In this thesis was studied the sympathovagal and the nitric oxide (NO)/reactive oxygen species (ROS) balances in ovariectomized female rats. It was verified the effectiveness of 17b-estradiol in the blood pressure (BP) control and cardiovascular oxidative stress using low doses of estrogen. Then, we developed three protocols to evaluate morphometric, hemodyn

7. Influência do sistema renina angiotensina na modulação do estado redox, no balanço autonômico e na hipertrofia cardíaca induzida pelo hipertireoidismo experimental
Hyperthyroidism is an epidemiologic relevant pathology, which substantially affects the cardiovascular system. The hyperthyroid state may affect basal metabolism, O2 cell consumption, renin-angiotensin system, and increase reactive oxygen species production. Those alterations produce morphological, biochemical, functional and molecular consequences in cardia

8. Influência do equilíbrio redox na resistência a fibrose pulmonar induzida por bleomicina em camundongos / Influence of redox balance on the resistance bliomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mouse

9. Vias de sobrevivência e morte em queratinócitos submetidos ao estresse oxidativo e choque hiperosmótico / Survival and death signaling pathways in keratinocytes exposed to oxidative stress and hyperosmotic shock
The epidermis is constantly confronted with multiple environmental stressors. Changes in humidity or exposition to UV radiation affect the redox state and osmotic balance, modifying the physiological characteristics of the skin. In response to different stresses, epidermal keratinocytes can activate distinct signaling pathways and the balance between death a

10. Putative benefits of microalgal astaxanthin on exercise and human health
Astaxanthin (ASTA) is a pinkish-orange carotenoid produced by microalgae, but also commonly found in shrimp, lobster and salmon, which accumulate ASTA from the aquatic food chain. Numerous studies have addressed the benefits of ASTA for human health, including the inhibition of LDL oxidation, UV-photoprotection and prophylaxis of bacterial stomach ulcers. AS

11. Reabilitação cardiovascular de curto prazo em mulheres com diabetes mellitus tipo 2 : repercussões sobre o balanço redox, a função vascular e a qualidade de vida / Effects of short-term cardiovascular rehabilitation in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus : repercussions on redox balance, vascular function and quality of life
