1. Hyaluronic acid-coated nanoemulsions loaded with a hydrophobic ion pair of all-trans retinoic acid for improving the anticancer activity
All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) has been studied for the treatment of cancer, including leukemia and breast cancer. This work aims to develop nanoemulsions (NE) loaded with a hydrophobic ion pair (HIP) of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and a lipophilic amine, stearylamine (SA), and coated with hyaluronic acid (HA) to enhance anticancer activity and reducing t

This paper describes the adsorption of an oligothymidylate (pdT16) on nanoemulsions obtained by spontaneous emulsification procedures. Formulations were composed by medium chain triglycerides, egg lecithin, glycerol, water (NE) and stearylamine (NE SA). After optimization of operating conditions, the mean droplet size was smaller than 255 nm. Adsorption isot

4. Combination Therapy Using Sodium Antimony Gluconate in Stearylamine-Bearing Liposomes against Established and Chronic Leishmania donovani Infection in BALB/c Mice
In this work we report the activity seen with combination therapy using sodium antimony gluconate in liposomes composed of egg phosphatidyl choline and stearylamine for elimination of Leishmania donovani parasites from the liver and spleen of BALB/c mice with established and chronic infections.

5. Antileishmanial Activities of Stearylamine-Bearing Liposomes
Here we report the activity of liposomes comprising egg phosphatidylcholine (PC) and stearylamine (SA) against Leishmania donovani parasites. Both promastigotes and intracellular amastigotes in vitro and in vivo were susceptible to SA-PC liposomes. A single dose of 55 mg of SA-PC liposomes/animal could significantly reduce the hepatic parasite burden by 85 a

6. Altered pharmacological properties of liposome-associated human interferon-alpha.
Human interferon-alpha was associated in different ways with positively (stearylamine) and negatively (phosphatidylserine) charged phosphatidylcholine multilamellar vesicles, depending on the presence or absence of a cholesterol component. Inclusion of cholesterol resulted in interferon that was significantly (P = 0.0001) more deeply internalized within the

7. In vitro lysis of the bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense by stearylamine-bearing liposomes.
Cytolytic activity of liposomes consisting of stearylamine and phosphatidylcholine (SA/PC-liposomes) was examined in vitro against the bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense. More than 99% of the cells (2 X 10(6)/ml) were killed within 30 min by treatment with 15 mol% SA/PC-liposomes (100 microM total lipids). As few as 1.2 X 10(12) liposomes per

8. Aggregation of Plant Protoplasts by Artificial Lipid Vesicles
Sonicated unilamellar lipid vesicles, consisting of egg lecithin, stearylamine, and cholesterol in 7:2:1 molar ratios, promoted the aggregation of tobacco (Nicotiana glutinosa) protoplasts with the aid of mono- or divalent cations.

9. Transfer of Liposome-Sequestering Plasmid DNA into Daucus carota Protoplasts
Reverse-phase evaporation lipid vesicles (REV) liposomes, consisting of phosphatidyl choline and stearylamine in 1:3 molar ratio, encapsulated approximately 30% of exogenously supplied recombinant DNA vector, pBR322. The DNA sequestered in REV liposomes was highly tolerant to DNase.

10. Preparation of a semisynthetic vaccine to Streptococcus pneumoniae type 3.
A semisynthetic vaccine to Streptococcus pneumoniae type 3 has been developed. The hexasaccharide [leads to 3)GlcpA beta(1 leads to 4)Glcp beta(1 leads to]3 was isolated from a partial acid hydrolysate of the capsular polysaccharide S3. It was coupled to stearylamine by reductamination with NaCNBH3 and then incorporated into liposomes. These haptenated lipos

11. Effect of composition and method of preparation of liposomes on their stability and interaction with murine monocytes infected with Brucella abortus.
The success of the use of liposomes as drug carriers depends on both their formulation and the method of preparation. We have carried out a series of in vitro studies using different formulations and preparation methods, with the aim of obtaining a type of liposome which is efficient in the treatment of brucellosis. On the basis of results obtained in studie

12. Action of the Peptide Antibiotic Leucinostatin
Leucinostatin, an antimicrobial and antitumor antibiotic, was found to be cytotoxic to the murine leukemic cell line, L 1210. A complete inhibition of cell growth was achieved with 0.5 μg of the drug per ml. Leucinostatin showed membrane damage against L 1210 cells as well as mouse erythrocytes. L 1210 cells were partially protected from membrane damage by
