1. Correlation between the range of motion of the tibiotarsal joint and blood circulation in the lower limbs in diabetic individuals
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the range of motion and lower-limb hemodynamic indices in the tibiotarsal joint of individuals with diabetic neuropathy. METHODS: Twenty volunteers of both sexes, with a mean age of 61.45±7.05 years, were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic peripheral neurop

2. Oral glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate on synovial fluid biomarkers from osteoarthritic equine joints
RESUMO: Vários estudos, principalmente in vitro, têm mostrado que o condroitim sulfato (CS) e a glucosamina (GLcN) possuem ação condroprotetora e anti-inflamatória. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar se a administração oral de CS/GLcN possui efeito sobre as concentrações de CS, ácido hialurônico (AH) e prostaglandina E2 (PGE2) do liquido si

3. The development of a mechanical device to stretch skeletal muscle of young and old rats
OBJECTIVE: How much force is needed to stretch skeletal muscle is still unknown. The aim of this study was to develop a device that mechanically stretches rat muscle to compare the force (N) required to stretch the soleus muscle of young and aged rats and the tibio-tarsal angle joint at neutral and stretched positions. METHODS: Twelve female Wistar rats we

4. Articular inflammation induced by an enzymatically-inactive Lys49 phospholipase A2: activation of endogenous phospholipases contributes to the pronociceptive effect
Abstract Background Arthritis is a set of inflammatory conditions that induce aching, stiffness, swelling, pain and may cause functional disability with severe consequences to the patient’s lives. These are multi-mediated pathologies that cannot be effectively protected and/or treated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to establish a new model of acut

5. Effect of high-voltage electrical stimulation on the albumin and histamine serum concentrations, edema, and pain in acute joint inflammation of rats
BACKGROUND: The mechanism by which high-voltage electrical stimulation (HVPC) acts on edema reduction is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of HVPC with negative polarity (-) applied to the ankle of rats with acute joint inflammation. METHOD: Sixty-four rats were divided into four groups (n=16): inflamed+HVPC(-), 0.03 mL application of ι-carrageenan

6. Effect of tibiotarsal joint inflammation on gene expression and cross-sectional area in rat soleus muscle
BACKGROUND: Joint inflammation is a common clinical problem in patients treated by physical therapists. The hypothesis of this study is that joint inflammation induces molecular and structural changes in the soleus muscle, which is composed mainly of slow-twitch muscle fibers. OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of tibiotarsal joint inflammation on muscle f

7. Estudo da incidência de osteocondrose dissecante na articulação tíbio-társica de eqüinos (Equus caballus), de três anos de idade, da raça Brasileiro de Hipismo, no Estado de São Paulo, por meio de estudo radiográfico digital a campo / Study of the incidence of osteochondrosis dissecans in the tibiotarsal joints of three-year-old Brazilian Warmblood stallions (Equus caballus), in the state of Sao Paulo, using digital radiographic approach
This project provides information about osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD) affection in Brazilian Warmblood stallions, particularly in the state of Sao Paulo. Osteochondrosis dissecans is a developmental orthopaedic disease, which can involve both humans and animals. It is the most important skeletal disorder in growing foals. It is a failure of the endochondra

Clinic evidences show that joint injuries affect muscles related to that joint making them more sensitive to atrophy and loss of force. However, muscle molecular responses in those conditions has not been investigated yet. Objective: To evaluate the effects of tibiotarsal acute joint inflammation on the expression of genes related to muscle atrophy (atrogin-

11. Experimental Arthritis in Mice with Mycoplasma pulmonis
A Mycoplasma pulmonis strain, recovered from the arthritic joints of mice employed in the serial passage of a chemically induced tumor, was found to be arthritogenic for mice under experimental conditions. Some joint involvement occurred in all mice challenged intravenously with this strain, and M. pulmonis was recovered frequently from the enlarged joints.

The population dynamics of Borrelia burgdorferi were quantified by real-time PCR targeting the flaB gene in skin (inoculation site, noninoculation site, and ear), heart (heart base and ventricle), quadriceps muscle, and the tibiotarsal joint at 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after intradermal inoculation in C3H and C3H-scid mice.
